Wiring Up New Single Point Spot Lights on Conservatory Wall

Sounds fine to me except for running it through the cavities- frowned upon. Obviously total load must be considered when adding lights but if you've removed the 300w I can't see that being an issue. Or, you could spur it off the landing light. I'll get my coat.

Need PIR with NO manual override

steinel sensors don't have the toggle-overide, for sure the 180 deg model I use often doesn't ( this model http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/STIS180B.html )

1 dimmer to 2way switch to 1 dimmer - Is this feasible?

Sorry but your description is making no sense, are you confusing "gangs" and "ways"? 2 gang switch= 1 plate with two individual switches 2 way switch = TYPE of switch that can be used with another two way switch to give 2 way control.

    TD 250T Extractor fan problem

This is the question. You should not have to modify the fan in any way to stop this and doing so will invalidate the warrenty. I'm not familiar with the design (internal/external connection box) but it could be either: -External to the fan, ie being dripped on from above. -Poorly fitted...

    24v carbon film underfloor heating

Can a carbon film go under tiles? I though that was for wood, tiles need a wire. I might be wrong there are all sorts of different products on the market. Problem with using UFH in bathrooms is you can only heat about half the effective area once you've worked the wire round all the...

can anyone help/ part P cert?

They didn't, sound like supply only + installation/connection was done by bodgit & leggit, now he's gone back to the supplier or manufacturer, the latter well within their rights to query installation standards. had a similar situation not so long a ago- big name kitchen supplier (who...

fusion 36kw electric central heating boiler

30 amps? Should give plenty to run a home on balence of one phase, if it's large you'd have to split floors across phases which might get a little complicated if you want to avoid 400v at any one location.

fusion 36kw electric central heating boiler

36 kW sounds immense. A house I'm working in recently had a 6kW boiler to run the heating temporarily, while it wasn't up to the job of heating 16+ rooms in building site conditions (2" gaps under external doors, badly boarded windows etc) adequately it did maintain about 10-15 degrees (while...

    How many MEB points?

As every service travels vertically through the apartments from basement to top, any one apartment has 19 services entering it.

    How many MEB points?

Apartments are fed via buildings own (ie not DNO) busbar trunking risers, with local meters. I've spoken to the nic- tech people about this and they really didn't like the idea.

    How many MEB points?

Rewiring an apartment- now, it's not unusual to find multiple rising mains + water isolation stoptaps in purpose built blocks... this one has 8 (4x hot&cold). But the real killer was finding the radiators were retro-fitted in the 60's with all ten on separate risers from the basement... yeah...

    Service Fuse too small......

contact EDF, they should do a site survey for free. bad news is, although 80 fuses can and are used in many 60A cutouts, in all likelyhood they'll insist on a new cutout, or possibly want you to pay for a new service. some bartering may be necessary, if they turn up and go "oh yeah new cable...

Chosen electrician, I'm a bit concerned....

Pretty much what rebuke said. sockets = RCD mandatory (unless single socket labelled up for specific appliance "only" eg fridge) lights = RCD not mandatory but most cost effective way of complying with certain regs, I'd be surprised if anyone included shielded cable/conduit instead and...

    Wireless Consumer unit

I've found the "ring on the end of a bit of 6mm" a couple of times, and also had a so-called electrician try to tell me the NIC had advised him this was perfectly acceptable practice. This I find difficult to believe as my experience of NIC tech advice, while not unhelpfull, tend to be...

Low energy options to replace MR16s

You can buy 12v MR16 LED lamps, they're not particularly good but improving all the time. Not seen dimmable ones though. Other option is to replace the transformer with a GU10 cap to fit CFL's. You may need to replace the bezels too, some can and some can't be used with these.

    house re-wire

Pensdown mentioned cost effective, which is what I took issue with. Steel conduit would of course be "best", but like pyro it loses out to cheaper but sufficient methods. I was asked to quote for some pyro the other day, purely for aesthetic reasons, the first time anyones asked me in 5...

    Freesat+

what is a "proper" brand? If you want a "big name" I expect one will come along soon enough and commision the chinese factory producing equipment wearing 40 different brands to glue their badge to the front, and charge you 50% more, if thats what you want?

Need for IEE ban on 'mains-tied' digital appliance clocks?

I've often pondered, with battery/capacitor backup or evan atomic radio clock synchronising components relatively cheap, the fact that nobody, including high-priced "premium" brands like siemens etc don't fit them says to me they're not evan trying to make usefull products.

    house re-wire

No way man. First of all, there's just carrying conduit kit- vice, threaders etc which most domestic sparks won't evan own. then every chase has to be twice as deep, and old laughing plaster walls would be a joke, compared to neat little box chop out & fish. Wouldn't evan contemplate it...

Is there an adapter to plug 2 light bulbs into one socket?

Yeah I've got an old one buried somewhere but they're frowned upon today. You can buy CFL lamps right up to 60w (=300w allegedly) these days so I'd just try a brighter one. might have to try an electrical wholesalers or as far as the high street goes somewhere like ryness.
