    Does PAT testing apply to.....?

As far as I can tell from what I've read, there is no explicit legal requirement for PAT. You are required to ensure that your equipment is safe, and PAT is a well recognised method of proving this. Whether PAT schemes actually make anything safer is a moot point, but an argument for another...

installing a lighting bar in a school hall

Care to show me a 2kg safety bond? I've often wondered about the need for a safety on parcans, you're holding up a fairly thin metal tube with a hook clamp bent out of maybe 10mm steel, and then all held together with M10 bolts, with no dynamic loads anywhere. I really can't see a single...

    Din mounted KWH meters.

I'd say that the OWL is probably still a good contender for the job, it just has a slight risk of under-reading, but that wouldn't have too much impact if you were to say round up the price reading it gives and set that much aside.

Further to RF, the OWL system kit? Display could then be located wherever convenient.

If starting from scratch what lighting would you get?

Really? The HF fitting I installed in my office would beg to differ with that - it doesn't flicker when starting, but takes a couple of minutes to reach maximum brightness, which is significantly brighter than immediately after starting.

Wiring garage sockets with steel conduit, how do I do this?

It's true that there are plenty of dangerous DIY'ers asking questions that can sound similar to that asked above, there are equally plenty of dangerous cowboys calling themselves electricians. For that reason I like to understand the process a reputable professional would use in a given...

    Repairing a light fitting.

You're dead right there, I did have them the wrong way up! Now just to work out how to get them to both fit at once without destroying the plasterboard or my fingers!

    Repairing a light fitting.

Hi all, Had a little problem earlier trying to refocus one of the floods in my kitchen ceiling. Basically a bit too stiff and trying to twist it pulled it out of the plasterboard and the spring clips holding it up fell off. I think the flange they fit onto got a bit bent at the same time...

    Project Help

Wire everything back to its own pin on an arduino, and then you can come up with as many torturous designs for how it fits together as you like. Big transistor to drive the sounder, same for LED's if you're using superbrights or ones that want to be driven at 24v or whatever.

At which point things become entirely daft because we're still better than a single 13A socket, and substantially better than a double 13A socket, which the regs specifically allow.

For the greatest neatness, could you not have a 4 way grid with one fuse serving three switches? Tim

Workshop: Lots of powerpoints, or some extension leads?

The other option is to hang single sockets on chains above machines and work benches. I've worked in a couple of shops with that arrangement and it makes life much easier, no leads running across the floor to worry about.
