    System Cleaning for Minor Alterations

When changing a couple of radiators what would be the best approach to system cleaning? Products like X300 state not recommended for systems older than 6 months, but obviously the new radiators will have manufacturing oils etc, need passivation, and flux in system need flushing.

    Microwave Boiler

Resistive element is 100% efficient at point of use and has a power factor of 1. Except by adding an external heat source, ie a heat pump, those numbers cannot be bettered.

How much depth needed to bury hearing pipes? And how to cover?

Bear in mind copper expands. Use a foam lagging that provides protection and provision for movement such as Armaflex class-O.

Endless Air In Central Heating - How?

If you have needed to repressure the system periodically, maybe the expansion vessel membrane has failed and it's air has been transferring to the system water? And it's now out of charge so when heated the pressure rises.

    Combi boiler pressure fluctuation

It could also be low on water, meaning that there’s no water in the expansion vessel when cold. When heated the water expands a bit into the vessel, which should have between 1 and 2 bar in it, and hence it serves to stabilise the pressure accordingly.

Boiler requires reset and air in system

That sounds like it’s working normally. The condensate is a result of burning the fuel efficiently.

Boiler requires reset and air in system

By syphon do you mean the plastic condensate pipe to outside?

Boiler requires reset and air in system

Anything that aerates the water is un-good. Likely there is a blockage near the pump (on the low pressure side, often where the cold feed from the tank joins the flow from the boiler). System probably needs cleaning and if it doesn't have one, a magnetic filter added.

    Condensate pipe work required fall

Steeper fall might be better to prevent icing and it's not carrying solids.

    Central Heating upgrade

sounds like a 3-6kW ASHP might be the answer and a thermal store with multiple coils. You'll need bigger radiators. Shop around for wood. Yes £140 is what Certainly Wood will charge but local suppliers will be under half.

    Central Heating upgrade

Yes, the stove needs to be lit. 12kW must be enough for 7 radiators unless they are gigantic. But cooling a 500l thermal store from say 80 to 40C releases only 24kWhr which clearly is only enough to provide 1kW for 24 hours, which is unlikely to be enough to adequately heat the house.

    Central Heating upgrade

I'm not familar with wood systems but it sounds to me that it's simply not being used enough and not providing enough output. Could you just replace the wood stove with an ASHP and then install a log burner maybe.

    Central Heating upgrade

RHI pays for ASHP based on consumption per EPC and the HP SCOP on the design flow temp. It's not limited to £5k (in England, anyway).

Endless Air In Central Heating - How?

See (carefully) if what's coming out burns. If it does, it's hydrogen caused by corrosion which is indicative that there is a lot of oxygen in the system and not enough inhibitor. New steel will create gas as an oxide layer is formed on it... can take a number of months. If it's a low...

How long do indirect hot water cylinders last

I just replaced a plastic cold water tank installed in 1971. It was actually still apparently fine but had no lid.
