    Refill hot water solar panel

The pressure gauge, expansion vessel and blow off valve are in a different location. It reads Zero. I do not know where the fluid has gone, but we have always had some escape from the valve. The panel temperature readings are up to 80°C. we have some shade from neighbour's trees now from the west.

    Refill hot water solar panel

Thanks for the replies. What is the normal or typical amount of solar fluid for a system. Our panel is about 3 x 1 m and the distance to the cylinder is 15m?

    Refill hot water solar panel

The solar fluid is available as pre mix. Is this the kind of pump you mentioned? https://www.manomano.co.uk/p/ridgid-1450-50072-pressure-test-pump-725-psi-50-bar-1395399

    Leaking Velux / Bad Installation

We have got roof lights and suddenly water coming through. Ours are Fakro ,but that does not matter. I thought the leak was because water was tracking back in and could not find a blockage. I even had roofers out who happily picked up some leaves and debris on the roof with no real solution. I...

    Refill hot water solar panel

We have a hot water solar panel on the roof. A couple of days ago the pump was making a sqeeching noise and I thought the pump was broken. I disconnected the pump and planned to look for a new one but also wanted to check the function and removed it. On the bench the pump worked fine and I...

rainwater coming from inside above the windows in the kitchen

I would want to check where exactly the water runs in. Get someone with a garden hose and jet onto the top of the window to check whether the water is running in above the window. This would be a quicker and cheaper DIY fix with silicone. The seal above the window looks very uneven. If that is...

    To triple glaze or not?

We have various versions of triple glazing in the replacement windows in the house now. Out to a road we have - all fixed in one frame - 2 pus 1 in 2 windows and a triple glazed pane in another. The distance from inside pane to outside is quite big and comparing the 2 different window stales...

    Secondary glazing for hallway window

We have got similar leaded single pain windows in the hallway. I wanted to keep them when I insulated the hallway and put the thinnest possible double glazed panes in. I ordered them to a fit to allow a silicon bead to seal them all around. I painted the original window frames black where the...

    Hip retile

Can anyone give me a rough idea what it will cost to put hip tiles back on. The storm peeled one hip off neatly. Some survived and some are smashed. See pictures.

    DIY flat roofing options

When we added an extension we changed our flat roof to pitched / tiled. This was not part of the extension but was similar in cost to having it refelted regularly and now I do not get the home insurance pestering me with "Have you got a flat roof?" plus the premium for a bigger house is lower.

How do I get these hinges off the door frame?

Push the brass pins out from the hinges and the door will come off with its part of the hinge. You might have another screw behind the centre part of the hinge. Then get the little grub screws off and the white hinge will slip off and there might a fixing bracket underneath.

    Trickle Vents

We are in England and did an extension in 2012 where 2 completely new windows were fitted and also a lot of the old DG units replaced. We went for triple glazed tilt and turn windows with NO trickle vents. Although the new windows have a "trickle vent" position the buildings inspector never...

    New TV Dilemma

We had / have freesat boxes but went for a Sony TV in the sitting room with built freesat receiver. The freesat boxes should normally also work when you press the buttons on the front of the box, i.e. on and off and change channels will definitely work even if the remote control is broken.

    New Kitchen Extension AV Suggestions

We have a flip down TV built into one of the kitchen cabinets. We took the bottom of a cabinet out and moved it up so that the TV in the flip up position is not visible. The TV socket is above the cabinet and not particularly noticeable.

Replacing brake calipers, is it really necessary?

When your calipers are off, inspect them. Look for damage to the rubber boot. Even if there is no leak from brake fluid out it is a way for water to get in and eventually the piston and thus break will seize and you will end up with a brake on fire. Other wise just refit.

    Help with RJ11 socket

Thanks for the reply. I had belled it repeatedly and I found a pin assignment like yours on the internet, but as things did not work at all, I thought it would be my mistake somewhere. Eventually I checked continuity on the wires and one wire was DEAD. This is so annoying. The phone socket is...
