    NEST without internet

The nest thermostat itself would work. It communicates with itself by its own wireless signal. So you could install it at the church and use it as a thermostat to physically turn the heating up or down. The nest uses the internet WIFI to connect to the outside world and to the app on mobile...

Balanced water feed and pressure valve

Ok I take your point that it might be there for a reason. Not sure how to check the pressure/ clean out the valve in the house after the valve but the valve says it’s a 3 bar pressure Maybe I should leave it in place by the stop cock and then just plumb the bathroom off of the balanced feed...

Balanced water feed and pressure valve

Cool thanks for the reply, you are completely right the whole pressure in the house is low I just want to have full mains pressure at the outside tap for the garden so want to remove the front end pressure reducer at the stop tap and wanted to check I was ok doing so. The showers and sinks...

Balanced water feed and pressure valve

Hi as per my previous thread regarding splitting the radiators into separate zones. I have had a new unvented cylinder and new boiler installed. By the new tank the heating company has installed a 3 bar pressure valve as part of the tank install. They have capped off the balanced feed as my...

    Wiring soffit down lighters

Agree with that totally and not saying you should recover the full costs but just emphasising that its not just a case of 4 downlighter and a bit of cable.

Replacing with SuperSwitch Central Heating Programmer with Drayton LP711

Ah I didn’t look too closely at that but you are right. I just saw the 3amp fuse rating on the backplate

Replacing with SuperSwitch Central Heating Programmer with Drayton LP711

I would say at a guess with looking at the size of the cabling in that picture Stem is right. It looks like you have installed a normal heating programmer which is rated at 3amps. You are requiring a high rated programmer capable of switching a 13amp load If the above is the case that is why...

    Wireless Thermostat.

I don’t know of just a wireless thermostat but you could buy a nest thermostat and switch off the auto schedule and home away assist and delete the schedule times then it will just be a manual thermostat which you could also control with your phone.

    Drayton and Nest combination

By the sounds of it the nest isn’t controlling the upstairs part of the house. New builds have to have 2 heating zones installed and hence you need 2 nests one per zone. You will probably find that the nest is controlling the downstairs and the Drayton is doing the upstairs. The 2...

    Bathroom and ensuite pipe sizing

That’s great thanks for the info. I’m going to change the 15mm to the bath and run 22 and branch off 15mm to the shower and bath taps and then pick up the 15mm going to the downstairs loo sink. So I connect this new 22mm cold feed to the balanced outlet. Would it do any harm the toilets...

    Bathroom and ensuite pipe sizing

Hi Im currently refitting my bathroom and then my ensuite. I've just had a new unvented cylinder fitted. There is a 22mm cold feed to the tank and a 22mm hot feed from the tank. These both disappear under the floor where a 15mm pipe branches off the cold and hot and feeds to the downstairs...

    Central heating problems

Thanks all for the replies I had problems with the company who installed the system and have lost all confidence in how they have installed the system. I have a nest thermostat installed onto the system and this is working well. Its just that when the nest is programmed to heat the hot water...

    Central heating problems

Thanks for the reply. So does that look like a standard piping layout? If I install a gate valve just after the zone valve before it goes into the tank that should slow the flow down so it doesn’t starve the randiators. My thoughts are that the way that they have piped the hw zone valve it...

    Central heating problems

Hi I could do with peoples input into how my heating system has been plumbed. I have a problem where there are 2 radiators in the front room of the house that heat up fine when just the heating is on but as soon as the hot water goes on too it makes the these 2 radiators go cold. I have...

    Splitting radiators into 2 zones

Im in the middle of re-piping the flows of the upstairs radiators onto a new zone valve pipe to make a separate zone upstairs. But I now have a question regarding fitting towel rails in the ensuite and bathroom. I am currently refitting the 2 rooms and buying new towel rails. The 2 towel rails...

    Splitting radiators into 2 zones

That’s great I just wasn’t sure if the returns to the radiator had to be the same or similar length/root to the flows to get even flow/heat. In that case I will leave the returns as they are and will just lift the flows off and put in a new manifold back to a new zone valve off the main flow...

    Splitting radiators into 2 zones

With regards to the returns all the radiators in the house are currently plumbed in on one zone could I remove just the flows to the upstairs radiators and leave the returns as they are and put just the upstairs flows onto a new zone valve or will this mess the system up.
