    Removing expanding foam skin ?

We recently had new windows installed in our old cottage, no problems, local village builder did the work, sympathetic to stone, Victorian brick and old render. Just one thing to sort. The windows are wood Benlowe with the 10 yr paint finish. On just one window the expanding pink foam spread...

Could we have porcelain tiles on this floor ?

Thanks for the replies and information. The floor does not have a damp-proof membrane so I will see what can be done prior to tiling. Cheers Brian

Could we have porcelain tiles on this floor ?

Before I waste the time of a professional tiler by getting a quote from them, will it be possible to do this ..? We have a Victorian extension at the back of our cottage and would like to have it re-floored with porcelain tiles (wife likes Gazzini). The existing floor is concrete ( later than...

Floor standing gas boiler choice ?

We want a heat only , floor standing gas boiler. The choice appears to be a Worcester Bosch FS30 CDi or Ideal Mexico or Potterton Promax. (11 rads). With regard to reliability ,quality of construction and customer service, what order would you put them in? My understanding is that W/B...

    Pipe size--I am confused !

"most normal people would allow their gasman to advise them." Yes, that is exactly why I used the gassaferegister to get local and gas qualified people to come and see what we have at the moment and what needs to be done to update it. " then maybe ask a few questions! " Again that is just...

    Pipe size--I am confused !

Nothing sinister at all. If I don't understand or want further information in order to make a decision then i will ask. Isn't that one of the purposes of forums like this ? Any thing wrong in asking related questions ? I didn't realise that there was a limit to the number of questions that I...

    Pipe size--I am confused !

Oh dear, I might have mis-led you a little here as we are going to have a heat only boiler and not a combi. I didn't mention that...sorry ! And no, Bengasman, I just took 'unbelievable' as shock horror etc, nothing else. Thanks again all for the really helpful comments. Brian

    Pipe size--I am confused !

Not all the quotes are in yet and I'm not sure that I really ought to publish them on an open forum, not sure that it is the done thing ! Lets say that the Worcester/bosch was surprisingly competitive and one Baxi about £600 more, but another a little less than the w/b. We are having a new h/w...

    Pipe size--I am confused !

Three people have said change the pipe, two said OK so 5 visits from Gassaferegister people/fitters/companies, hence the expression 'two groups'. Old Vulcan and gas hob have all been OK but I suppose that the old Vulcan uses less gas or gas at a lower pressure ? Cheers Brian

    Pipe size--I am confused !

Ah, so it depends on the boiler, no one told me that. Might be a Worcester/Bosch or a Baxi and a Potterton was mentioned. But it seems that the gas feed pipe needs to be 22mm ? Thanks, and for prompt replies. Brian

    Pipe size--I am confused !

We are in the process of getting estimates for a new replacement gas boiler, amongst other bits. The gas meter is around 8meters from the present boiler and has a 15mm gas feed copper pipe. Gas hob is tee'd off from it in the kitchen. One group of Gassaferegister fitters tell me that the...

    Gas pipe-gas pressure-rendering-Joe Public confused !

I am your typical Joe Public, I can read about gas boilers and systems etc and then ask the Gassaferegister listed person to come and look and give me a quote for the work required. It is ME that pays the bill. Installer A looks at the gas feed pipe from meter to boiler-10m distance-with take...

    New meter-very different readings.

Oh yes :D :D much less :D Just to add that the new meter is running correctly in so much as day units are added on the day display. I suspect that the old dial meter was out and running a little quick in the day and slow on the night time but probably too late now to do anything, just too...

    New meter-very different readings.

Thanks for the instant replies. We don't have storage heaters -- we run a small boarding cattery plus our own breeding and show cats ( all tax declared etc) and all the outdoor units have infra red heat lamps in them. Winter use is heavy , esp' at night, hence the Econ 7. All from the house...

    New meter-very different readings.

I just don't know if this is worth following up or not. Back in 2006 we had our electric from Brit Gas, using the dial meter that had been in the house for about 20 yrs , with night time Economy Seven. BG for a good few yrs. We used a comparison site and switched to E'On based on the dial...

Capita Gas Safe - April fool?

This is Joe Public. I need a competent/reliable and qualified gas installer to remove our old boiler and fit a new one together with various associated works. I used the Trustcorgi website to begin with and then was told about Gassaferegister replacing it (DIY page on a car forum). I used...

How do I work out what size a replacement boiler should be ?

I have been following the responses with interest. Perhaps my initial question should have been to ask what procedures/measurements/information would be required by a boiler installer to determine the size required. My comment re' being sold the correct size boiler was just that, I wanted to...
