    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

Hi All, I have a Potterton CH/HW system, and are looking at the possibility of replacing the controller box as the switches are getting delicate/making bad contact, and overall the plastic has gone yellow/brittle. My question is, can I replace it with any controller? (IE are they all...

    Toilet Seat Not Staying Up

Went to Screwfix and bought the Cooke & Lewis slow close one - more adjust-ability in the hinge are - problem solved :D Wish I had bought that one in the first place, instead of the 'Croydex Circumciser 9000'!

    Toilet Seat Not Staying Up

The hinge is as far away from the cistern as I can get it. It seems all toilet seats are slightly different, so a bit of a gamble whether the one you buy will fit properly? I did see something online about trying to level the cistern using the bolts underneath. I'll give that a go, but if...

    Toilet Seat Not Staying Up

Hi All, Got one of those slow close toilet seats (Croydex) to replace a 'bog' standard plastic one. Even with the seat in the most forward position (away from the cistern), the lid and seat don't always stay up. The old seat never had this issue. Has anyone else had problems like this? I...

    Isolating hot tap in kitchen

I guess its not worth cheaping out on iso valves, so I think I'll go with Pegler (they seem to have a good rep) For a kitchen sink, could either full-bore or restricted-bore be used with little noticeable difference between the two?

    Isolating hot tap in kitchen

I did find some flat faced iso valves on ebay, however not sure I should trust cheap (chinese made?) valves not to leak...

    Isolating hot tap in kitchen

Screwfix & Toolstation appear to just do the normal ones (that may split the washer) However, Toolstation do these: https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p63663?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=googleshopping&utm_campaign=googleshopping&mkwid=aQVzV5GY&pcrid=26799122783&gclid=CKOu38rDqcACFYzHtAodgUMA4g So...

    Isolating hot tap in kitchen

Thanks, I think this is the method I will have to use, as I cannot find a valve. The tap I bought comes with two flexible tails. If I put an isolating valve on the 15mm hot (and maybe also the cold) pipe, can I just screw the tail straight into it, without the need for compression olives and...

    Isolating hot tap in kitchen

Hi, I'm going to replace our kitchen sink with a different one, but can't seem to find a valve that isolates the hot feed. Where would these usually be? I guess as a back-up, I can isolate the feed into the hot water tank upstairs, then drain the contents of it? Thanks, KP.

    Getting fencing replaced by contractors

Hi, Does anyone know the rough cost of getting 5 fence panels put up, with concrete posts down South? There is currently 5 lap panels with wooden posts and spikes, some have concrete, so part of the cost would be removing the existing broken fence. Cheers, KP.

    Noisy Central Heating

Only others I could find downstairs were two under the kitchen sink for the hot and cold taps, and this one on top of the boiler (excuse the dirty boiler top!) I would have thought the valve would need to be lower than the rads though?

    Noisy Central Heating

So you think maybe a flush through rather than just dumping Fernox in the F&E and letting it mix in? I've never drained a system before, but doesn't look too bad a job. I seem to have different drain down valves that what I have seen elsewhere. With these do you just stick an old hose on the...

    Noisy Central Heating

Boiler is a Potterton Prima F in the kitchen downstairs. Probably quite old, maybe original when house was built mid 90s? I don't know. The pump is in upstairs airing cupboard next to cylinder. Cheers, KP

    Noisy Central Heating

Its difficult to locate where the noise is coming from (as the noise travels quite well along the pipes) however it appears to be coming from the pipes directly above the boiler in the kitchen. It sounds like a scraping/clanging noise.

    Noisy Central Heating

Hi, After having the heating on for about an hour, I've noticed a 'scraping' in the pipes/rads. It goes after 5 minutes then comes back again later. I've bled the rads, they seem ok. It could be the pipes expanding, unfortunately no easy way for me to get to them under the flooring. I tried...

    Garden Taps

Ok, got it from screwfix with double check valves. Fitted it, but have a problem. To turn it tight so no water leaks out of the thread, it is at an angle. I have used ptfe tape on the thread, but it still needs to be tight at an angle as shown in photo. Is there a way I can have it tight, but...

    Garden Taps

Hi, My garden tap is leaking, so rather than mess around changing seals, I'm just going to replace with a whole new one. Current tap is a Comisa 1/2. I don't know whether I need a double check valve replacement tap though? Perhaps it would be safe just to get the double check valve version...

Mains socket with USB built in

It is around 35mm with the plasterboard added in, so might give the MK one a go. I did look at the MK datasheet which gave the gubbins at the back at 28mm, so would only leave 7mm for wire space however. The MK one is double-pole, so probably better to go with that then a cheaper single-pole one...
