    Tree crown reduction quote

Looking at getting our ash tree tree reduced down in size. Probably about two stories high at the moment. What sort of cost so you think I'd be looking at, so get an idea of what a good quote my be. I intend to use a legit one off Checkatrade. The amount of non-registered company trucks I've...

    Stubborn screw removal

The brass colour ones are the ones I've managed to get out and replace, those are pozi, but the original mangled ones aren't? The only way I can tell is looking for the lines though. Wouldn't it feel obvious putting the incorrect screwdriver in as well? Like not a good fit feeling?

    Stubborn screw removal

The set I got ages ago is a generic brand version of the below set. These are PH by eyeballing them. The driver bit that came with my Bosch drill also is PH looking at it. The ironmongery screws I've been having problems with I am assuming are Phillips. The screws I'm replacing them with are...

    Stubborn screw removal

I'm wondering if as well as the whacking/torque element of an impact drill, the screwdriver bit used is important too. When I tried with my drill, there seemed to be enough torque, it just kept slipping out the cross. Even when putting my body weight behind it.

    Stubborn screw removal

Any recommendations on a decent set that isn't mega expensive? The latch in the photo wasn't the main reason I was fiddling with the gate, it was actually the misaligned slide bolts not pictured which I also repositioned. I'm just hoping when we come out of summer back into rainy season, it...

    Stubborn screw removal

An update, don't have access to impact driver, and drill was just slipping. Also tried the hammer and posi technique someone mentioned, but that wasn't working either. So I ended up drilling the heads enough that I could yank the ironmongery out. Some of the remains I managed to unscrew with...

    Stubborn screw removal

The brass coloured ones are the ones I've managed to get out, the ones with grey paint on I can't remove. I blasted them with WD40 to see if that frees them up at all.

    Stubborn screw removal

Hi, Currently trying to remove some latch furniture from my garden gate, as it has warped over time. There are a couple of screws that are corroded, stubborn to get out, and in doing so the screwdriver is slipping and rounding them off. Can't get a purchase on the head with pliers. My...

    Bloody birds

Yeah, so I went up in the loft and saw a one of the birds running along the soffit box, along with a load of debris from where they were building a nest I guess. I'll leave them for now. Still not sure what the smash noise was, all I can think was maybe a bit of mortar they knocked off, and...

    Bloody birds

Any idea what the smash sound might have been, as I couldn't find any debris. Could the birds have dislodged something in the wall cavity?

    Bloody birds

We've had birds nesting in our front gutter in previous years, but this year it sounds like they are getting behind the fascia, possibly through the small gap between the roof tile & plastic fascia top. Today I could hear them scuttling around, and then I heard something fall and smash. Sounded...

    Toilet cistern slow leak

Looks like it is coming from bottom of the seal to me. The cistern was pulled into the wall when tightening the screw, perhaps that moved it enough to disturb the seal? Not wanting to disturb anything else much more, I wonder if there is enough play in the toilet floor screws to just push it...

    Toilet cistern slow leak

Woke up this morning to a puddle around the toilet! Different leak this time, appears to be coming from the waste pipe at the back. Not sure why that would start leaking as I didn't touch that area. Maybe re-tightning the cistern to pan/wall moved it slightly. Any ideas? (you can see the drip...

    Toilet cistern slow leak

Yep, had I known for sure what seal to get beforehand, I'd of done that. But I had a free run of an empty house this afternoon, so I just cracked on with what I had. The inner diameter measured around 2.5 inches, is this because it has stretched? I assume I'd need the 2 inch close couple seal...

    Toilet cistern slow leak

Just finished removal of cistern, tightening the loose nuts, cleaning seals/surfaces and applying some plumbers mate, and reassembling. So far, no more leakage. I did have some trouble with the inlet valve not shutting off, but this was due to the float fouling on the cistern wall. Slightly...

    Toilet cistern slow leak

Thanks guys, I got a better picture of what I'm looking at now in my head. Will remove cistern from pan when I get an empty house, and have some silicone/plumbers mait at the ready. (I got the idea to remove the flush valve from inside cistern from this YouTube video, but didn't consider a...
