    Heating by itself not working

Do you think another brand might be more reliable, or would that require changing the valve type as well?

    Heating by itself not working

I could take a gamble and get a new motorized head. Before I do however, would there be any way to confirm it by fudging the microswitch somehow? If the M and HW positions fire up the boiler, and CH doesn't, this would seem to indicate 2 out of 3 microswitches are working. I thought maybe it...

    Heating by itself not working

Is the bleed lever the little black plastic spring one that sometimes pops out? Currently in the heating only position it is in, and won't budge. I'll select mid or hot water so it pops out, then manually move it back to heating to see what that does. When I select hot water and heating...

    Heating by itself not working

Hi all, Tried turning the heating on today, with thermostat set high. Boiler doesn't fire up, neither does the pump. If I select hot water and heating, the boiler fires up and the rads start getting warm. In the past, I have fixed similar problems by removing the Drayton 3 port motorized...

Tilt and slide patio door problem

I've managed to find some time to have another quick look. The tilt & slide patio door appears to be a Maco Gr.6 1851-2100. Below is the bit I think may be causing the problem (see red arrow). It doesn't appear to hold in the little side keyway bit (I've marked the keyway with red line). Do...

Tilt and slide patio door problem

Hi all, Our tilt & slide patio door is having problems closing. It is the same one as when we first moved in, so quite old now (10+ years). The problem looks like it is down to the bottom of the door tucking in too soon, rather than just the last part of travel. In fact it looks like the...

Stair gate fixing to plasterboard/stud wall?

To be honest, I'm thinking of just using a pressure gate at the top of the stairs now, like Freddie Mercury's Twin said above. Maybe in conjunction with the 'Wall Nanny' pads from Amazon to spread the force on the walls. Less faff.

Stair gate fixing to plasterboard/stud wall?

Well, I'm struggling to find a suitable wall fix one at the moment, so may end up down the pressure gate route anyway. (Most of the popular ones on Amazon are pressure ones)

Stair gate fixing to plasterboard/stud wall?

It seemed to suggest in the product info bit on Amazon that pressure gates are not recommended for top of stairs.

Stair gate fixing to plasterboard/stud wall?

Thanks guys, I'll source some wood at some point before I order the gate. I was going to use the plastic general purpose wall plugs, but perhaps would be better to use the metal self-drill type plugs. As the bathroom is on the other side of the wall, I think I might borrow a stud/pipe/wire...

Stair gate fixing to plasterboard/stud wall?

I think the wooden baton on the plasterboard as suggested is probably the best way forward, to spread the load. Where's a good place to source small bits of plywood? Guessing B&Q and Wickes only sell huge sheets of the stuff. Cheers

Stair gate fixing to plasterboard/stud wall?

Hi all, Mid-90s build house. Looking at fitting either a fixed or pressure baby stair gate at the top of the stairs. The wooden bannister side should be sturdy enough to either fit screws or push against, but the other side I'm not so sure. It is a hollow plasterboard wall with the bathroom...

    Radiator adjustment question

Yep, its between 60 and 65 on the dial at the moment. I guess it depends on how accurate that it though. I think my room thermostat maybe isn't too accurate, I don't know. I've for a thermocouple probe for a dmm somewhere, I might check it at some point.

    Radiator adjustment question

How would I know what the boiler temperature is though, if the control dial goes from 1 to 5, and not in celcius?

    Radiator adjustment question

Ok, I've set the boiler down to 4, and the cylinder down to just above 60. See what that does.

Perhaps turning down the temp on the boiler/cylinder?

    Radiator adjustment question

Looking at turning down the temperature of the radiator in our baby's room. Missus wanted me to fit a wooden radiator cover to stop baby burning himself, but I'm not keen on this idea. With lockshield rads, can I just close one of the valves to drop the temp down in that particular room, or...

Puddle in cupboard under kitchen sink

Job done, tightening the top nut like suggested by Madrab did the trick. One thing I did notice was when I turned the stop cock in the road off (quarter turn CW), the water from the kitchen tap didn't stop completely. Still a dribble. Maybe the outside stop cock needed to be turned more...
