New Roof = Major Humidity/Damp in House

I don't know if this will help but we had a first floor flat in London (it was the top flat). We decided with the other 3 joint freeholder in the block to put in loft insulation. Unfortunately that created a lot of damp in our flat as the warmth from the property could not escape through the...

New roof - is this an issue?

There are lots of youtube videos on how to build a new roof and how to fix a leaking roof by replacing the tiles. It seems quite straightforward to be honest, but it is dangerous to work at a great height, especially in wet and cold conditions and it is heavy to carry the stuff up the ladder to...

New roof - is this an issue?

ha ha. yeah, it sounded like BS to me but apparently it is true, that a roof can settle over time as someone who had her roof done said the roofers pointed this out to her when they finished her roof and it did in fact settle with time. we will see. i think it is just an aethestic thing and...

    Roof Not Straight?

yeah, i know very little about roofs, but i have to agree that the roof was already not straight in the old photo, but they should have told them and straightened it, which could be costly. the new tiles are flat, whereas the older ones aren't, so the slant looks even more stark. when I had a...

New roof - is this an issue?

I asked the roofer if that is a problem as it looks a bit more raised than the others, and he says it will settle on its own with time! Hmmmm.... I just hope it is not going to cause an issue. I think because they had to insert it after the roof was laid, it is harder to seat it properly.

New roof - is this an issue?

Thanks. The hip rafters were not replaced as the other side of the roof from the photo was not replaced so I guess there is a slight gradient mis-align. Is that going to cause a leak or is it just an aethestic thing? The roofer says that this why the ends are a bit raised but it will not...

New roof - is this an issue?

I got a new roof at the front part and I have noticed that some of the tiles are raised compared to the others so you can see a little gap under them. Is this normal or is this standard and nothing to worry about? Here is a photo, where I have shown the raised tiles in red. Thanks in advance...

Replacing fluorescent light with a standard bulb

when i look at diagrams and videos for fitting a ceiling rose, there is always a connection to loop in and if there is another light after the one in question, there is a loop out so i wasn't sure if i could just skip this "loop" block connection as videos which show how to connect a fluorescent...

Replacing fluorescent light with a standard bulb

I have a fluorescent light in the kitchen that I want to convert into a standard candescent light. Looking at wiring diagram below, there is only a live and neutral cable that feed the fluorescent ballast and bulb. Can I disconnect the fluorescent fitting and wire up the new candescent bulb...

Two way switch for hallway issue

the problem has gone away already as i had mentioned in my original post, which appeared simply by me going upstairs and using the switch up there first. I am asking in case this problem comes back. I had a similar problem with this sort of set up from different locations in a room to control...

Two way switch for hallway issue

I opened the downstairs switch to look at the wires and nothing looked loose. I also opened the downstairs hall light and inspected the wires and again nothing looked loose. Yeah, I was wondering if the switch may be on their way out and so not passing current through every now and then. Just...

Two way switch for hallway issue

I found that the downstairs hall light would not turn on yesterday when I turn the switch in the downstairs hall on. However, when I went upstairs and turned the switch up there, which also control the light in the downastairs hallway, the light works. Then the switch downstairs started to...

    Reduce chimey stack

We are looking to get a new roof next year and when we got roofers round to get a quote, one company said that it would be cheaper and more efficient to reduce the chimney stack and bring it below the tiles, that is knock off the chimney stack until it is only high enough to be in the loft...
