    Eaves wall plate installation query

Thanks. The plate is already in but crosses the gable blockwork and terminates on the outside of the blockwork. Blockwork is only installed to course below plate, so I could cut it back flush with the inside of the blockwork. My concern is the one thin course of raked blockwork not having a...

    Eaves wall plate installation query

Hi I am building a small single storey lean two extension. My query relates to the eaves wall plate. I understand this is to be bedded on mortar on the inner skin of blockwork. Should the plate be cut to fit up to the inside of the return/gable blockwork, or should it pass through the gable...

    Re-roofing semi-detched house - worries!

Thanks catlad. Will be nailing Marley Anglia concrete tiles. They seemed to be nailed with 40mm nails all those years ago, but when I tested 38mm nails with new 19mm battens they came through the bottom of the batten by a few millimetres, so was worried they would go through the new felt. The...

    Re-roofing semi-detched house - worries!

Hi, I will be having my 1960's semi-detached house re-roofed very soon. The old battens were rotten and the felt was falling apart. The old battens were 19mm-3/4" thick. The roofer has advised that to avoid an issue at the join with next doors roof they are going to use 19mm x 38mm battens so...
