Thanks everyone. I am not ignoring any advice as I have ordered the following Mini Expansion Vessel (with built in gauge) which arrives on Wednesday:
How to Remove Water Hammer? - YouTube
The chap suggests pressurising to half a bar above your water pressure.
I already have the reducing...
Hi @vulcancontinental - I have run the hot tap in the kitchen for 5 mins and then turned it off, and the results were the same as when running the cold tap. Sharp spike to 7 bar and then slowly retracts back to 5 bar over about 7 seconds.
It was the same for both running hot and cold taps separately as I tested both BUT the gauge was on the cold supply (outside tap) which was just the other side of the wall to the kitchen tap used to run water and quickly shut off in test.
I have no way to attach gauge to the hot water supply...
I am thinking the simplest thing would be to remove the compression fitting used for the central heating filling loop on the mains cold supply to the boilers DHW inlet as circled in red in the photo. Replace this with a 15mm to 15mm Tee that also has a 1/2 female connector for the mini...
Thanks everyone. Just tested the pressure at just after midnight and still 5 bar. Got someone to run a tap and shut it off quickly and the pressure quickly spiked at 7 bars before the gauge settled back to 5 bar a few seconds later. I assume it is these spikes that a mini expansion vessel...
Ok, thanks. I can't access the area around the mains stop cock to fit a pressure reducing valve there as suggested by @Gasguru , I am also concerned that if I fitted it just after the stop cock it would affect for example my garden hose etc. The piping for which is all behind a kitchen...
Tested the mains pressure today at both mine and my neighbours outside taps. They were both the same at 5 bar. The boiler DHW side is ok to a max of 6 bar. I assume then I only really need the mini expansion vessel.
Thanks. I must admit I get confused between flow and pressure. The boiler has a black knob which acts as a stop cock, but apparently turning this down reduces the flow but not the pressure.... can't get my head round that, as if you turn it down to a dribble then surely you have affected the...
OK, thanks. So the Pressure Reducing Valve can/should be installed just after my main stop cock? I do wonder though what the effect might be on showering etc? Would it be beneficial to take a pressure reading first (overnight when it's likely at its highest) before going to all the trouble as...
Thanks @vulcancontinental
I find pushfit easy for DIY installing in confined spaces and have used JG SPeedfit in the past. Only concerns might be around earth continuity of pipework.
I was thinking of the following:
Reliance Valves Predator Compact 312 PRV 15mm x 15mm | Pressure Reducing...
Thanks @Gasguru and @DP.
Both the boiler and water meter were already at the property when I moved in back in 2007. Boiler was installed in 2005, and maybe at that time there was no water meter installed hence no mini expansion vessel etc. Even so, the first heat exchanger lasted well...
Hi, yes we have a water meter. No visible sign of a mini expansion vessel on cold feed to DHW. I know the boiler has an internal one for the central heating as the engineer re-pressurised it.
Apologies to bump this thread, but I am on my third heat exchanger since 2018.
The original one with the Vokera Compact 24 boiler lasted 13 years and then failed (separation between mains water for hot water and heating side was breached causing pressure to rise and PRV to activate).
So...
Hi,
Is there anyway to stop a "Siemens Trade TRV" from seeping at the spindle. I freed it up the other day as it was gunked up and stuck. But now it leaks if the spindle is not fully open.
I checked the small 12mm nut on the top was tight and it was. I was wondering whether this nut can be...
Thanks ericmark...
The mirror is fine and I am confident in my abilities to re-wire the isolating shaver transformer to the mirror's infra-red switch (currently used to turn on and off the LED lights and demister heat pad) BUT am not sure on whether this would be OK mainly due to "Back EMF"...
Hi, thanks for the info... this is the mirror:
Wickes Oslo LED Bathroom Mirror - 500mm | Wickes.co.uk
I was assuming that a company like Wickes would only sell one that was up to British Standards?
Hi,
I have a heated and LED lighted bathroom mirror with integral shaver point, however the shaver transformer buzzes.
The LED and Heat pad are controlled via an IR sensor switch. On the switch control box inside the mirror it says:
100-240VAC
Max Lighting Load: 250W
Rated Current: 1A

Thanks everyone, I thought it might be Rock Wool (the grey/beige colour insulation above). Didn't think sheeps wool was used as loft and/or cavity wall insulation.
Here is a closer photo of the white insulation material:
Hi,
Is this insulation asbestos from a house, on the first photo there is also a white type of insulation mixed in with the other. It's a little wet from the rain as it's outside in bags.
Thanks
