A warning pipe will discharge water to forewarn of an impending overflow and cannot discharge water at the same rate as the inlet. An overflow can discharge water at a rate equivalent to or greater than the inlet rate.

My Nokia charger emits a high pitched whine/whistle when there is no currrent through it (phone full or not plugged into phone). My parents old Trinitron Sony TV used to make the same noise as does my DVD player when you switch it off. Mst just be in the frequency that your dog can hear.

Ahem... Whilst G2.8 does say that spherical valves may be used above or below ground, it does not specify that that they may be used as stopvalves. It quite clearly states that "STOPVALVES" should be screwdown valves complying with at least BS1010 for above ground and BS5433 for below...
