    Converting 4WD to 2WD

Yes, obviously. But you then have two big holes in your drive train, what do you do with them?

Roofing Basics. What do I need to know??

Going for a job that involves some pitched roofing work (slate, cement, clay roof tiles), what do I NEED to know from a basic roofing point of view? Sizes of roof tiles. Spacing of roof lats. Slates of different sizes on one roof. Interlocking tiles. Safe working on roofs. Types of hand...

Ok, make that 60cms then!

    boiler oil pipe earthing

Yes you need bonding on your incoming oil pipe, 10mm earth cable back to your earth block on fuseboard (difficult if on other side of house!) If its microbore (10mm diameter copper), be careful not to over tighten the screw on the soft pipe. Some boilers have two pipes if you have a tigerloop...

    RCBO, single pole only.

I can't find any requirement to disconnect on both pole for auto-disconnection, but just asked because RCD's come as double poled. I do see an RCCB having a BS EN 61008-1 number and RCD's having a BS EN 61557-6 number. Making a RCD different to a RCCB (which has a different name to a RCBO of...

changing a two way switch for a dimmer

Has nobody ever laid a romantic table for two on the landing with low lights, you haven't lived!

    RCBO, single pole only.

I just asked because I see many DP RCD's being sold and my little SP RCBO only disconnects in the phase conductor. Which is what an MCB does, but obviously both poles are better than just one? If the rcbo disconnects the neutral wire electronically that would not count. Most RCD's are DP, right??

    RCBO, single pole only.

I have got an RCBO for my sockets like I said in a previous post. Another question I have is, does it meet current 17th edition regs regarding disconnection. As it only physically disconnects the live wire right?

What this electrical item then, science fact or fiction?

Its a 11mw solar power station in seville, Spain. Not PV but a huge arrays of curved mirrors aiming at a central tower of water, driving a steam turbine. The rays of light are not computer drawn on either, its the power of the reflected light!! Grab you sunnies 8)

Is that questions about the old Peugeot 205, my mate had one!

changing a two way switch for a dimmer

There are better experts than me here, but don't think you can have two way dimming. You need one lamp, one, 1w dimmer.

RCBO's. Do they do overload and short circuit faults?

I am putting an RCBO in my tiny CU to cover any earth faults on the sockets. Do they cover for both overload and short circuit faults. (earth faults obviously incl.) That's magnetic and thermal reactions as Spark123 told me. thanks

    Science question, might bore most!

If its "tied down" to earth along the return path to the transformer surely it would loose current to earth. Or am I missing something important here?? Or is real contact to earth only made during fault conditions (via a passive device, until there a surge of unbalanced supply). Just curious.

    Science question, might bore most!

In diagrams of electrical systems, earth and neutral appear to be the same thing? ending their path back at the sub station at the centre of "star". Or in the case of TN-C-S (PME) earth is joined to the neutral conductor inside a property. Neutral is a Live conductor and earth is protective...

Laying New Patio with Indian sandstone, How??

My mate wants a new patio (Indian sandstone) instead of his crazy paving that he has now. No retaining walls. One step level up to front door. Whats involved with getting the job done right? :?

Changing to MCB's, why a bigger rating?

Using existing circuit cables the lights (5amp) has now been allowed an extra 20% to 6amp on the mcb. Granted the mcb has a faster reaction time with high current.
