    build or make

    I don't built anything

    all in one WC

Stayed in a B&B with a macerator in the en-suite. After a night on the guinness I was remarkably worried and had to flush about 4 times for it to shift anything... not an easy task when you consider the noise they make, I was sure the floorboards were going to come up.

    Backwards or what?

When working nights we regularly park the vans in a side street or farm gateway so you can just see the white wing and then look at speeding motorists through our Thermos flasks whilst wearing our big yellow highway jackets. Simple things amuse simple minds.

    why are you.............

But if you are - try some of the herbal pills that keep getting offered by spammers

    why are you.............

My career in the water industry started as a lowly leakage detection technician. The rather monotonous task of walking down a street and flipping open every stop tap box/valve chamber/ fire hydrant and listening for leaks is called "box bashing" due to the amount of jabbing you have to do...

Connecting new MDPE water supply pipe issues at both ends

I can't see on that link where it makes any mention of a trace wire...? :?

Connecting new MDPE water supply pipe issues at both ends

They aren't a requirement in the Water regulations... therefore they may insist on it as much as they like. There is also no requirement to inform or notify the Water Co of the replacement of existing water supply pipes.

    rcd keeps tripping

Unplug everything that you don't need to be plugged in and see if it still does it overnight.

Connecting new MDPE water supply pipe issues at both ends

You maybe able to connect the MDPE to the existing metal using a "plasson universal coupling". Leave a small tail on the existing pipe and coonnect onto that. I'd replace the internal pipework with copper or plastic for simplicity sake. Trace wire isn't important. They are a bonus not a...

    Washing machines/ dishwashers

Easy way to get a W/M out if you've got a wee bit of clearance at the top is to lift front enough to get a round bar/tube underneath. Then use this as a fulcrum to balance the M/C and roll forward. Broom handle has a tendency to dent but is the ideal thickness. We have metal ones that are...

    Loud cold water

Plastic does mask noise transference to a certain degree, but when the noise is being caused by restricive fittings then it is the fittings themselves that emit the noise.

    bg hitting its engineers.

The phrase "working in competition" is an ambiguous one. Surely if you are priced more reasonably then you are not working in direct competition. I know many people feel put off by the prices of BG and would therefore try and get quotes off a local independant. If that customer would never...

    Loud cold water

Nothing against them per se, just their over exuberant use by the corner-cutting builder. They are extremely good when used in the correct application. Just moved into a house that was plumbed mostly with straight connectors and elbows/tees with the occasional bit of plastic pipe in between...

    Loud cold water

Sounds to me like you've had a lot of "plastic plumbing" done... Every join in pushfit/plastic pipe is a restriction which causes turbulence & noise when water flows through it. The other possibilities are: 1) Stopcock is partially shut. 2) Isolation valve left partially shut. 3) Pipework...

    terrible driving

I've made someone reverse 1/2 mile up a narrow cutting because they had come through a road closure (moved the barriers to get through). We had an open trench across the lane and a HiAb wagon dropping stone off. There was no way the Hiab was reversing so we made her. She was very annoyed they...

    water regs/energy efficiency

I'm surprised they (CORGI) haven't started charging you to notify that your van is taxed and insured... Maybe from the 1st July they will charge their RGI's £300 a year to certify that their van's are smokefree... Do they actually charge RGI's for notification of Water Regs compliant...

    terrible driving

I'm waiting for Thermo's comment about 17 yr old drivers... We had a section of road closed off for mains replacement and another section changed to one way with about thirty signs saying "no left/right turn", "diversion", "road closed", "no entry", "one way" I went there to sign...

    F.A.O. Crafty

Back in the day of my bleak period at McDonalds (at college) we were having a brainstorming way of increasing the sales of donuts (our store was "behind target" for dessert sales - can you believe they have targets like this?). I suggested putting up a sign saying "Donuts 2 for £1" - which...

    water regs/energy efficiency

I don't see why CORGI require you to have Water Regs qualifications... Water Companies don't require you to have qualifications - and it is the Water Co's who are responsible for enforcement of Water Regulations (not those robbing sods at the kennel club). The only stipulation is that work...
