Existing underground SWA to summer house.

I believe Mr. ban-all-sheds replied helpfully about my question regarding earths. The difficulty with modern electrics is that we are not all qualified electricians but also all not completely stupid and can read to get some background information and make a valued judgement. You can still...

Existing underground SWA to summer house.

The power to my summer house is supplied by an underground SWA cable. (Pre-part P). I'm thinking of having whole system checked out and wondered whether this bit would comply to modern regs. They don't seem to specify a depth but sufficiently protected, although 500mm is often mentioned. The...

Adding a further TT Earth Rod to garage

Yes, I think it is MICC cable. I didn't put it here hence my concern although it's clearly survived for some time. Sorry, yes 2006. That will be the cables dropping down the newly plastered walls in the refurbished lounge then :) and so I meant no way of getting new cables in from below. And...

Adding a further TT Earth Rod to garage

Thanks John. I think I was being drawn to that conclusion anyway. I am in a belt of very heavy clay which is good (except for gardening!). I have read that a 2 metre 15mm copper pipe would be better than the 4ft plated ones you tend to get in Screwfix etc . I believe people have some success in...

Adding a further TT Earth Rod to garage

Thanks, I see. I'm pretty sure it is just the one as it is those relatively cheap thinner ones that are widely sold and not threaded so I think that it is just over 1 metre in the ground. Probably okay in this weather ....... but. I think my concern is that by the time the earth conductor...

Adding a further TT Earth Rod to garage

The current TT is a single (looks like 3/8") copper plated spike. Probably 4 ft with 4" above ground with a 10mm earth cable from the clamp to the main consumer unit. Not really sure whay you mean by appearance. It looks like a weathered earth rod!

Adding a further TT Earth Rod to garage

I have started to review and consider the wiring in my late sixties built house that I have lived in for a few years. The wiring is pvc and not rubber and appears pretty sound but has had various additions before my time ( and a couple since) and no doubt before the 2003 regs as some wires are...

Roof repairer in Essex that doesn't charge £100 an hour for labour

No, that's how the "professional"roofer did it a few years ago! Jobbing builder used some sort of bonding cement fillet and a flashing. Couldn't see the details because as I said, can't get on the roof. Didn't leak after the rain the other night. £100

Roof repairer in Essex that doesn't charge £100 an hour for labour

You'd like to think a roofer might be smart enough to carry his ladders with him when he's looking to quote for a roof!

Roof repairer in Essex that doesn't charge £100 an hour for labour

I think the responses so far sum up what ordinary people and pensioners are up against. I asked them what was involved. They said 1 to three hours labour and less than £50 materials. Local so took 10 minutes to pop round and look at a time that I had to fit in with them, which they both changed...
