How to stop painting skinning over in the tin!!

Will you stir the paint before you use it? If yes, the skin will break and will get mixed in the paint, much worse than just removing it as you will now have to strain the paint. And please do not tell me you will not mix the paint before you use it, I can see it coming :-) Feel free, do as...

How to stop painting skinning over in the tin!!

It will just skin on the other side. The difference is you will not see the skin but it will be there all right. If you can't remove the air a skin will be formed. Cut it carefully and remove it is the only option for reusing the paint.

12" (or bigger) paint trays and liners

Toolstation does a 15" tray, as far as liners go if you remove the paint at the end of the work it should be easy enough to wash it. https://www.toolstation.com/roller-tray/p90055

Staining Internal Laminate Door - advice please!

They look veneered to me. They may have been finished with lacquer which may limit what you can do, and I do not have a clue if you could achieve the finish you want as that would need the grain of the veneer (assuming you have veneer) to be as raw as possible. :-(

Do NOT USE Tetrion with F&B primer/undercoat

You should have applied diluted primer/undercoat as you did the first time on the filled areas. Alternatively, and not necessarily safe, Toupret filler is not meant to need priming.

Pine worktops for kitchen - how to stain/oil/finish

All oils will somewhat darken any/most??? woods (the equivalent of the wood being wet). But pine will also darken by itself irrespective of what you put or do not put on it. Check out pure tung oil (at least the Liberon version I believe is food safe). Other than that you must oil frequently...

    Shed roof repair guidance

If it helps you a little, I refelted my sheds and the job did not last well. Second attempt is lasting better. Replace the wood as necessary then a layer of underlay for felt nailed. Second layer of underlay glued (make sure joints do not coincide) adhesive was from wickes probably something...

    Painting lots of woodwork

You are describing the finish of the paint. You can choose any finish you like. What people are trying and fail to explain is not to use "oil based" or "solvent borne" paint as it yellows fast. If you use water based it does not yellow. You will need a primer for MDF (and perhaps...

wirewool or abrasive paper inbetween coats

I don't know the product but having a look it seems like a varnish that will give a hard surface. If it lifts the grain of the wood and needs denibing wire wool may do it (I don't think it will tho). So you would need to sand down with fine paper around 320 grade or so. You may still need...

Oak veneer internal doors - why 'stain only' finish?

I see some FAQ like http://www.wickes.co.uk/Geneva-Oak-Veneer-Door/invt/190919 Only guessing. Solvents in Varnish? Surely not that different to solvents in paints. I saw somewhere (perhaps this forum) about water based varnishes not to be used on veneered doors (no idea why...

Oak veneer internal doors - why 'stain only' finish?

Wickes and others say similar. (A while ago I was reading the spec. for Jeld Wen doors - google it). They want the doors to be sealed as by varnishing them or painting then so you seal them from dampness etc. The idea is to stop the wood warping by changes in humidity. In fact they...

What varnish and how to apply

Doors have trafic (i.e. fingers) more or less always on the same area, normally below the handle. Grease and dirt from fingers accumulates there. Cleaning it is the issue. Kitchen benches we hope will get a more even traffic which is also part of what they are expected to look like. Well...

What varnish and how to apply

I thought for doors oil or shellac+wax will not withstand well the accumulation of dirt at the area where the door is touched when pulled or pushed shut. Rather they will not withstand the cleaning on that area. People tend to touch doors consistently at the same spot. Also the house has...
