The door was Wickes and the window was b&q both were cheapest I could find anywhere. Especially with trade pro at Wickes. Not the quickest delivery on either I think approx a month. They are both standard sizes and the holes were made to match as made to measure was too expensive. Door was...

I'm not 100% sure, I've been assured its fine. there have been no signs during or after fitting tiles of any movement although I appreciate snow and wind could present significant loading. I may put some cross beams in at some point

Fitting ridge and gable end tiles in cold weather Additives?

Hi, finally got to the point where I will be fitting the ridge and gable end tiles this weekend on my slow going garage build (link below) but the weather is perilously close to zero. Has anyone any experience adding additives such as Sika Wintermix Chloride Free Admix & Frostproofer to the...

Hi Kingandy2nd, that was always the plan the garage being the 'practice' although my misses isn't keen on more DIY and mess but i'm sure she'll come around. Being a 1930's house the kitchen is tiny I plan to build out about 4.5m (so 1.5m more than the neighbours) as per the drawings earlier in...

Happy New year! Due to covid we couldn't go anywhere or see anyone so I used the time to get some tiles on the roof (Nearly all 450 of them!) really tested my fear of heights doing this! Top tip - Remove the protective tape before you nail on the facia undercloaking fitted and...

The wall plate straps and the 150mm concrete screws holding the wall plate in place. Also just under the ridge at alternative rafters there is a brace that is bolted in position with dogtooth washers and m12 bolts. Also the ridge beam rests on the internal walls at both ends. But there will be...

Not entirely relevant to this thread but as you ask neither. I find the 3rd party approval scheme much cheaper than BC. I used the scheme when I rewired the upstairs ring main and installed a brand new ring main for downstairs Also I wasn't 'worried' I was just asking what steps were involved...

Vaulted Ceilings and safe zones cable routing

Great thanks guys, The ceiling will be constructed as follows roof Tiles, membrane, air gap 100mm of insulation between the rafters 50mm insulation then plaster board. In terms of running the cables in the ceiling where do they fit into that stack? I assume between the final insulation and...

Vaulted Ceilings and safe zones cable routing

Hello, I know a safe zone for running cables exists 150mm from a corner or from a ceiling. I assume this still applies with a vaulted ceiling? Meaning I can safely run cables within 150mm of where the ceiling starts to vault? Although I guess for the gables i'll need to keep the cables within...
