No idea to be honest. I would be grateful for some recommendations.

    Damaged wiring

Thanks buddy. I'll take your advice and borrow a neutral from the porch light. A nice thin 1mm white wire will hardly be visible on the coving. I'll probably be changing the carpet in my sons room in a couple of years time. When this happens I'll rip out the adjacent floorboards and see if i...

    Damaged wiring

I've got some fitted wardrobes there and I can't get the carpet to sit properly from when I last lifted it, I'm also left with a squeaky floor board so kind of put off doing it ever again even if the wardrobe wasn't an issue.

    Damaged wiring

Aah ok. I couldn't see the junction box to answer your question but what you're suggesting is unlikely. Where do we go from here? Shall I just cap off the switch live and the dead neutral cable and call it a day?

    Damaged wiring

The neutral wire looks mint close to the light fitting. Thats not the problem. I know where the junction box is but not exactly within a margin of error that I would want to cut through the ceiling and insulation to get to it. Good shout though. Please can you elaborate on the below, I'm not...

    Damaged wiring

I agree. I just can't get to this junction box because it will mean destroying half of my sons bedroom. I'm taking some solace in knowing the electrics in the rest of the house works perfectly, not even a flicker. If it was a loose live wire I would have to find it but am I right in thinking a...

    Damaged wiring

So I got an extra long cable and connected the porch neutral to the passage light neutral. Doing this makes the light work! So we know what the problem is... the neutral at the passage light has gone. Let me know your thoughts. CF

    Damaged wiring

Definitely not. I've lifted floor boards directly above. I know exactly where the junction box is where the ceiling rose is contained and its a mission getting to it. I don't have a multimeter im afraid. I can pull a neutral from a nearby plug socket as a qualitative test if you like.

    Damaged wiring

Thanks for the prompt response. See video for behind the light switch and light fitting: I've not got cable long enough to bring the neutral from the porch light for our test. Can I take a neutral from a plug socket just to diagnose if there is an issue with the light neutral? Thanks again CF

    Damaged wiring

Thanks guys for the comments. This project stalled for several months because I've just not had the time and I didn't deem it essential enough to pay an electrician to come in to my house during the pandemic. See video for more details: The wall is anything but flimsy... its solid brick. Is...

    Damaged wiring

Thanks guys for the comments. So I'm missing a neutral at the hallway light, that means it has nothing to do with the switch right? There is no way I can dig out the neutral cable from the ceiling rose/junction box as it is buried deep in the ceiling. The porch light is nearby and ceiling rose...

    Bidet hot water installation

Hi guys I want to fit one of these bad boys: https://www.tapwarehouse.com/p/vellamo-square-douche-kit-and-mixing-valve?gclid=Cj0KCQjwhb36BRCfARIsAKcXh6HLp30gVfzyxc6e9m5X-1Lbzzexxp7WUKM-WXPCA8DomDHI8vXj7-QaAmEhEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds My understanding is that these can't be plumbed directly into...

    Damaged wiring

Live neutral and earth at switch and light No conduit I'm afraid. I watched the plaster go on myself. I had another go with a tester at the light fitting. There's electricity at the live wire but still not lighting up. That means the neutral has gone. Several weeks ago I tested it and there...

    Damaged wiring

Thanks buddy. I'll muster up some courage to rip some plaster out. Them crimps look good. Does it come in smaller quantities? By punching the wall. :ROFLMAO: Replaced both the light switch and the fitting. Same problem with both... Intermittent on/off/flickering +-punches :ROFLMAO:

    Damaged wiring

Thanks for the replys boys I can't see the damage. It's been plastered over. I'll have to break the plaster bit by bit to identify the damaged wire. It's a solid wall. I'm guessing I can't join the wire using a connector block and bury it under the plaster again? Thanks again

    Damaged wiring

Hi guys The wire between the switch and the ceiling rose has become damaged while doing some work on the wall. The damage is directly above the switch within 1 meter. I know this because I can punch the wall in a particular spot and the light will flicker. How do I repair this? I don't want...

    DIY Bath panel

Thanks for the reply buddy. Not sure how confident I feel in bending plywood :S That looks like a great job. How would you access the waterworks underneath if needed? Can you get a whole plastic sheet like that at a similar price point if I wanted to bend it like Tigercubrider said above...

    DIY Bath panel

That's right. The bath is almost 20 years old. Manufacturer don't do the panel any more. My only option is third party which is expensive and poorly fitting. The old one was cracked in multiple places. It had also yellowed so looked kind of disgusting.

    DIY Bath panel

Hi guys My panel is cracked and broken. I was planning on replacing it with a wooden sheet (with the correct waterproofing measures) My original plan was to run a sheet all the way along the side ignoring the bulge. however, now that the panel has come off, the metal supports are in the...
