Thanks for the offer Jinj but ended up going with the £350 guy. Seems to have done a nice neat job and he's going to come back and install my appliances :D .

    What bagless vacuum cleaner??!!

Yes it is strangely satisfying to see all the dust and dirt spinning around!!! More seriously though, I thought bagless cleaners have better suction (or is that just a marketing ploy?). Alison

    Kitchen rewire quote- too much?

Hi there I think we made it pretty clear that we wanted the wires concealed (I hope!)- there is a fairly thick layer of gypsum that he can chip into. He was recommended by a friend as he did a good job of his flat rewire and didn't leave a huge mess to clear up. I'm just so sick of wires...

    What bagless vacuum cleaner??!!

Hi there Can anyone recommend me a good bagless cleaner. Are Dysons still the favourite or are there any other more reasonably priced cleaners that do the same job?? Thanks Alison

    Kitchen rewire quote- too much?

Hi there Thanks for all the replies! Divadoll_1- not sure what you mean by 'chasing' (too technical for me!) but the electrics are fairly exposed as we have pretty much gutted the kitchen. There are however some old wires that are completely 'wrong' and have to be replaced. I'm not...

    Kitchen rewire quote- too much?

Hi I've just had a quote of £350 for a rewire of a small kitchen- 3 low level plugs, light switch, 2 double sockets at worktop level, wiring for hob, oven and extractor. He's also going to drill a hole through for venting the extractor. Sound steep? Or ok? Thanks Alison

Knocking down a load bearing wall- approx how much?

Hey don't get me nervous :? ! I'm at work and the builders are getting to work on the wall as I type! There are only 2 of them and they said they'll be finished by Wed (it's Mon now). I'll let you know how it turns out! Al

Knocking down a load bearing wall- approx how much?

Just to let people know- I managed to get a quote of £620 :D for this job including disposal of wall and plastering. Not bad considering the first quote of £2000 I had!! Al

    can you belive it

Having paid out for three surveys on flats I didn't end up getting- I reckon it's a good idea that the seller does the survey so that anyone interested in the flat can have a look. At the moment it's rediculous that you have to fork out over well £100 pounds for each property you are...

Patio doors- should I even attempt to install them?!

Hi there Was wondering if anyone had any experience of fitting patio doors DIY style?! I would like to install my own :? (already having builders to knock down a load bearing wall and need to save some money) and would like to hear about other people's projects. How difficult is it? Did you...

    Lino over Lino ?

I'm no expert but you could perhaps get away with leaving the old stuff down if you lay some underlay over it before putting the new stuff down. Al :)

    Getting rid of an arch

Thanks for the reply. When I tap the arch there is definately very hollow sounding area at the top of the arch. Hopefully I'll be able to knock that away then. Cheers

    Getting rid of an arch

Hi there I have an archway instead of a door in one of the rooms of my flat. How easy would it be to remove the arch and reinstate a door? Is it something a non-expert could do? Thanks Al :D
