That makes good logical sense, saves having to drain down all the rads to work on the boiler or tank. Don't suppose I could do that with the oil boiler as well? I know I can't with the wood stove. . .

    Timclocks, Thermostats and pump/boiler control.

I will check and get back on that one.... When the stat on the tank says "reached temp" it stops the circulating pump, and the boiler main burner.. I guess as the boiler thermostat hasn't reached temp then there is no "cooling off" period? . .

The ACV is a ACV SLME 300 http://www.acv-uk.com/slme.htm No 2 or 3 port valves that I am aware. (I'm not a plumber! LOL) Three circuits from the tanks PRIMARY water, one looping through the oil boiler with a pump, another looping through a wood burning stove (gravity circulation) and...

. . Wouldn't be surprised after the rest of the fiasco! . .

There is a thermostat dial on the front of the Worcester GreenStar Utility that you set the output temp and I guess when the return water reaches that temp the oil boiler stops heating (turns off). Yes, the main burner goes off but I don't need to reset anything. . .

The circuit between the oil boiler and ACV300 SLME has a normal CH pump circulating the promary water. . .

Yes, the boiler heats the thermal store directly and the CH is the same water but gets circulated to and from the store via the CH pump. So, yes, it looks like I need to follow your instructions about the X-100. I liked the look of the Magnaclean Twin Tec, but haven't looked into the others...

    Timclocks, Thermostats and pump/boiler control.

. . You will have to bear with me as I have never had central heating before and aren't used to setting thermostats and timeclocks, what overrides what and how it is "normally" run. My "plumber" says what I want "cannot be done", but based on his previous history I think it may be more...

I have had a brand new system installed with about 11 rads, a wood stove, a "thermal store" and new worcester oil boiler. The system is all open vent, on oil and wood stove side. I have beeen looking into magnacleans, spirotechs, boiler buddies and Fernox Total Filters. The plumber never fitted...

Building regs - Plastic F&E tanks - Wood stove

The Titan PC25R 25 gallon cold water storage tank is manufactured to comply with BS4213:2004 which stipulates they have to be capable of withstanding boiling water for 500hours. Sorted. There is an interesting article at the link below headed:- INFORMATION FOR WATER SUPPLIERS, PLUMBING...

Building regs - Plastic F&E tanks - Wood stove

. . Ok, as I had concerns I switched off the oil boiler side of things to stop the pumpover, so no it is not being used now.... Thankfully the plumber is aware of the issue and he is booked to come back and sort it..... in a months time! but it's ok, I'm a patient chap... . .

Building regs - Plastic F&E tanks - Wood stove

Mmmm.. if I shouldn't I need backup of the regs. to give to the "plumber" I have asked my existing "plumber" to give me the manufacturers assurances, in writing, that the plastic Titan PC25R is suitable for the job. Am I being unreasonable? . .

Building regs - Plastic F&E tanks - Wood stove

. . So my plastic Titan PC25R is ok as an f&e tank for a wood stove? It's just that I'm suffering pumpover and when I checked the tank it was full of hot water and very floppy! A tad worrying as you can imagine. Thanks anyway. . .

Building regs - Plastic F&E tanks - Wood stove

. . I have trawled the 'tinternet for the reference in the Building regs relating to Feed and Expansion tanks used in conjunction with an "uncontrolled" heat sources such as a wood stoves. Can anybody shed any light on this please? I have a Titan PC25R 25gallons F&E tank on the wood...

How many vent pipes are required on an open vent system.

. . If I capped THIS vent it would airlock. However it would "expand" out of the other vent (on oil circuit) Was that the correct answer? (feel like I'm being tested here! LOL) Can I have my HETAS certificate now please.... LOL... . .

How many vent pipes are required on an open vent system.

Yes, I closed the tap on the cold feed and it all but stopped, not quite, but very very close. (The water was probably still expanding in the whole CH system and sending a bit over TBH.) Cold feed is on the oil boiler return as it leaves the tank. The oil boiler circulation pump is just as it...

How many vent pipes are required on an open vent system.

The heat leak is connected as per the drawing now.... and the plumber fitted a lever valve too (not on vent thankfully!)

How many vent pipes are required on an open vent system.

Gotcha... All becoming clearer the harder I think about it..... Pity the "plumber" doesn't think a bit more.... . .

How many vent pipes are required on an open vent system.

The "plumber" has been back and re-jigged the connections again... so the piccys in the album don't reflect the exact setup now. In a nutshell the stove return has been swapped for the oil boiler return. . .
