    Small Porch Roof

I don’t know if it’s the colour of the roof but that looks like leadwork? If they’ve used some sort of waterproofing paint on wood then I would recommend putting some grey sealant in it.

    Building a Paved Driveway

I’ve done my driveway recently (I’m an electrician so wasn’t too clued up) it was block paved but, we dug our a foot deep, place geo textile down (Taram). Then put about 200mm type 1 (hardcore) down, levelled out then sand. In your case build up the hardcore to within 100-80mm of the finished...

What’s causing damp in living room?

I’m presuming thats a ground floor, if that brickwork is going down through a suspended floor to soil, it may be worth taking the floor up and installing a dpc, whether resin injection or slot in an actual membrane, an air brick may help too.

    Padstone for Bifold Steel beam?

Hi I have a single storey extension going in with a 4m long bifold to the garden, it is likely that due to this span we would be installing this steel with welded plate as you’ve shown in your detail drawing. My question is: Where this steel is supported at either side of the bifold, will the...

Trench foundation at boundary? Cavity wall position

The boundary is centre of the fence line, a trench foundation would end up under the fence by 50mm, any experience with having the cavity wall of centre on the foundation?

Trench foundation at boundary? Cavity wall position

I’m building a rear extension on my end of terrace bungalow, my Architect has specified a 600mm x 1000mm concrete foundation. At the adjoining boundary to next door we have a concrete post fence, the 150mm “toe” of foundation on that side of the 300mm cavity wall will need to go slightly past...

What is a Fire cavity barrier?

Thanks for the response, can’t really see how it’s needed for my house, maybe apart from the adjoining gable wall, I have a rear dormer with cladding but the fire wouldn’t be spreading to another premises.

And can provide me with a link to the ones I need? It’s a full fill cavity...

hi thanks for the response, my joists run front to back of house, wall plate to wall plate, so parallel to gable walls either side. it requires straps at both gables, it’s a semi-detached, end of terrace bungalow. I haven’t been in contact with a BCO at all yet so I’ll see what they say... I...

Hi guys/gals, I’ve recently had my building regs drawings through from my architect for a loft conversion where the truss roof is coming down and new roof put up, it states “restraint strapping - ceiling joists and rafters to be strapped to walls and gable walls, straps built into cavity across...
