    fitting new thermostatic shower valve

The fitting was actually a copper pushfit one (15mm x 1/2" straight male connector from Wicks. My reasoning for using this particular fitting was that the connector could be tightened in the shower valve whilst rotating on the pipe so if it needs undoing at a later stage you would not have...

Really? Will it be OK to use these then, if I use a good bit of PTFE tape on the threads?

    fitting new thermostatic shower valve

Thanks guys. I got a 15mm x 1/2" straight connector to try and although it fits, I accept what you say TicklyT, which is what I am worried about. It is slightly different and I don't want sealing problems. I shall visit the local merchants and see if they have the right fittings as you...

    fitting new thermostatic shower valve

Managed to find some instructions on-line - so yes to question 1 (thought it was!). With regard to connections, it is 1/2"NPT male. What is NPT? Where do I find these? Assume this is 15mm pipe for 1/2" connect so I'll have to reduce the 22mm at some point.

    fitting new thermostatic shower valve

Getting round to fitting up a new Hudson Reed thermostatic shower valve. Firstly, am I correct in saying that I do not need to fit non-return valves to the H&C supply feeds as the shower valve has them built-in? Secondly, what connectors do I use to marry up the pipework to the valve ...

No cross bonding or earthing in bathroom?

Currently underatking a bathroom refurb which involves removing old electric walk-in shower and fitting new bath, shower and two basins. So far I have only seen some cross bonding to the old sink taps. The radiator has nothing. I have had a new boiler and tank fitted in the loft now and...

Had a go, but why the cracks?

Just the one coat used as I just wanted a light skim over to level it up. If applying two coats, after how long from putting on the first should you apply the second?

Had a go, but why the cracks?

Hi Richard, Was plastering over some render which appeared to be a sand/cement type. Used an electric drill to paddle mix - aware that it is too fast so used in short bursts. The consistancy seemed OK, but as it began to dry too quickly either it was over-mixed or could have done with a...

Had a go, but why the cracks?

Had a go at plastering with multi-finish on the toilet wall today (approx 4ft square area) Initial panic set in when I saw it beginning to crack where it was drying out too quickly. Managed to save it by keeping it watered with a spray bottle and troweling across it but it took ages! I...

What size waste for two bathroom basins into one waste?

Really? Would the extra size negate any siphoning or possible gurgling?

What size waste for two bathroom basins into one waste?

Right then - so I have two wall mounted basins, both with own traps, and then I have a running waste valve in each waste pipe prior to them linking up into one pipe to discharge? Thing is I want all the pipework hidden in the stud wall. How do I get round this?
