    riello burner issue

I would if I could. Last winter I spent over a grand on oil engineers who advertised themselves as competent, and none of them were able to identify the fault I subsequently did manage to identify. Which was contaminated oil. Hard to believe, but true. Unfortunately there is an unhealthy mix of...

    riello burner issue

No. That's never come up before for me so any tips on how would be very welcome. So the electrodes would still fire even if the solenoid not opening? I have moved the burner on and off the bench a few times now so maybe I have knocked something.

    riello burner issue

Any pointers gratefully received. Just replaced nozzle and pump strainer, reattached burner, bled through using nozzle on bottom, but getting the lockout code. Happens like this" press reset, goes into pre-ignition, electrodes fire (from sound of it) but no ignition, then back to lockout. So...

cleaning the inside of a riello oil burner

From what research I've done the algae/bacteria is a relatively recent thing, so you probably won't have seen it in the past. Hard to know what to believe on the internet of course but it seems to be linked to mixing mineral fuel oils with biofuel. It's apparently quite common with the boating...

cleaning the inside of a riello oil burner

Last winter I had four new nozzles fitted after repeated lockouts. Each time there was a green film on the nozzle filter. Nobody I used knew what it was. After it cut out for the last time I took it on myself to sort out. Once I found out what the parts were I checked the pump strainer. It was...

cleaning the inside of a riello oil burner

A while ago I had a lot of help with diagnosing burner lockout problem with my worcester boiler. Thanks to that I eventually found out my oil was contaminated. I cleaned the oil with a marine diesel filter, swapped out the burner pump filter, nozzle and in-line filter, and all was good. However...

    pipe knocking

I haven't been keeping tabs on it. I have just had a look and the pressure is 1.5, dead in the middle of the green. It's a Worcester heatslave 2. Ive got the hot water on now and there is no noise. I will leave it on to see if a noise starts up without the central heating being turned on.

    pipe knocking

It's a combi boiler. I can have the central heating on for hours with no noise, but then it will start. I thought it might be heat related. I don't have a thermostat in the house, although the temperature on the boiler is not set very high.

    pipe knocking

I realise there are threads around this, but I haven't found the symptom I have, so maybe someone will be able to point me in the right direction. After the central heating has been on for a while a loud rapid fire knocking starts. It stops the instant I turn the tap on (have been turning hot...

    further oil burner issue

Ok, thanks for that. Those are all new steps for me because up to now I haven't touched the electrics. Thanks.

Riello 2.2 bf 12/18 (greenstar heatslave).

    further oil burner issue

I posted recently about Worcester Bosch boiler issue, and it turned out to be clogged filters from contaminated oil. With all the filters changed and the nozzle changed, and biocide added to the oil supply, it ran ok for a couple of weeks before cutting out again. It cut out and would not start...

six weeks, six visits, still no working boiler

Thanks. I have no idea what was on the tanker because I wasn't here for the delivery. I think the neighbour had his delivery first but not certain. Thanks for the tip on the biocide dosage. Yes, I do know where I am now.

six weeks, six visits, still no working boiler

Blimey. I am assuming my pump wouldn't have the power to cause that. Also the boiler seems to be fairly efficient at cutting out when there is a problem. I've gone from cursing it for cutting out to thanking it (or the engineers who built in the safety features). The good thing is that now I...

six weeks, six visits, still no working boiler

Just been reading about fuel degradation, and apparently it can happen fairly quickly nowadays. Something to do with the processing. Solids separate out and clogs the filters. It was an article on diesel but I guess the same is true for heating oil. Anyhow, next step is to add the additive when...

six weeks, six visits, still no working boiler

Thanks for that. Especially the bit about blowing from the boiler end. Like I just posted I don't know if it is necessary because I've got what looks to be reasonable flow. It is definitely not a trickle. Thinking about it, if the pipe was partially blocked and reducing flow I would have thought...

six weeks, six visits, still no working boiler

Thanks for that, John. I am not sure it is necessary now. I am getting good flow (although I have no frame of reference) at the boiler end and the liquid is mostly clear except for flakes of what I take to be algae. I thought at first that there was going to be a mass in the pipe that was...

six weeks, six visits, still no working boiler

Cheers. If I seem hesitant it is because I would rather not do anything without first fully understanding everything I am doing. It's not that I can't work it out, it's that there may well be something I overlook that is obvious to someone familiar with the set up. The internet is both a help...

six weeks, six visits, still no working boiler

I've had a think and I reckon I am going to have to bite the bullet and get a chap in to blast the crap out of that line and test for leaks after he has done it. Worst case scenario I need a new line, but I would rather that than the alternatives.

six weeks, six visits, still no working boiler

My oil supplier was not all that interested in my moan. The problem is that my neighbour had a delivery of the same oil from the same lorry, and their boiler has been running fine. Which closes off the possibility of a contaminated batch, unless I was really unlucky and just got the bad bit...
