    17th pir for renting

just been reading a thread discussing a pir for the sale of a house,it seems that the regs are not retrospective so you don't have to upgrade to 17th. a mate is thinking of renting a house, and has been told he has to have a pir certificate before he can rent, his wiring is is about 15 years...

    clarify 17th please

thanks for all the replys,a bit clearer now, it looks like the general solution with a wylex rewireable cu,is to put a rcd unit at the side of the existing one.but what if the original ring cables won't reach the new rcd, what do you lot do then?

    clarify 17th please

thanks for the replys, (1) so if the installation is not under the supervision of a competent person, running a cable down to a socket/light switch in a safe zone is no longer acceptable, unless protected. (2) how will you bury conduit in a plaster and brick wall, (3)earthed metal covering,is...

    clarify 17th please

been reading the threads on the 17th edition regs, bit confused. if you add or move a couple of sockets in a room,or add a light switch, and the consumer is the old wylex rewireable. if the cables are run in the correct zones do they have to be rcd protected or be run in the metal...

thanks johnd,i was just chatting to someone who is having the work done,he is'nt contemplating renewing his cu,so i said i would ask on here, does he have to have the sockets rcd protected?,could he have a a shower type rcd box fed from his spare fuse,or as mentioned rcd sockets,
  17. P

    rcd protection.

new ring into kitchen would be protected by a spare fuse in a rewireable fuse box.do they have to have rcd sockets fitted to all of the outlets,or can they just be normal switched sockets.

    new installation or addition

the electrics were already in the shed when i moved in. there is no ulterior motive other than curiosity. when you quoted "usual RCD and PME earth export considerations" because i don't fully understand,i now need to find out what it does mean, you say that a shed can be supplied from a fcu...
