Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

Thanks. Tried this this morning and still nothing from the hallway. All other downstairs rads are fine. I don’t understand how it can work fine for 6 days and then stop again. I’m debating whether to balance the whole system from scratch inc temp. Drops but as it didn’t make any difference when...

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

So last Saturday after flushing out the sentinel I did as you suggested and the flow came through on both sides at a decent speed. I filled a couple of buckets up from each pipe. I only did this on the hallway rad. The two problem rads (hallway and lounge) got hot! I was amazed. I balanced all...

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

Just to ensure that i'm doing as you've suggested. I'm conscious I tried this a few months ago and it didn't really work. Do you mean physically remove the rad? Or just disconnect the flow and return from the rad (keeping both valves open) and then let it run for a minute or two.

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

Ok. Should I do this once I’ve flushed the system from the sentinel?

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

Ah ok I thought microbore was plastic pipe. It’s been in for nearly 20 hours but was off overnight from 10-7am so it’s been circulating for 13 hours.

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

Its a gas combi. Baxi Duo-Tec 40. Pump running at full speed. Boiler temp set at 68C but turned it up to full when I put the sentinel in. I tried taking the TRV's off but no difference.

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

Most of our downstairs rads are on 10mm copper pipe. We don't have any microbore. Is there anything else I can do whilst the Sentinel is still in the system? Should I leave it in longer than the 20 hours to circulate for longer?

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

I don’t think it’s solidly blocked as some hot water did get in it earlier after the X800 was added and it is flowing. I noticed that the return pipe is getting hot but the flow is pretty cold. I don’t think it’s sludge though as i managed to get the rad warm during the test tonight.

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

I’ve noticed that since I’ve turned the other rads on in the last 30 minutes one of the problem rads is cooling down. Which makes it sound like a balancing issue but earlier I closed all flow and return valves bar this one and it still didn’t get hot.

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

Yes, they all have TRV’s except the towel rails. I’ve removed the heads and checked the pins move by pressing something hard on it. They all work and one of the problem rads is a new valve and trv. I tried your suggestion earlier this year. It worked whilst I was working on the rad but didn’t...

Baffled by cold rad - Not sludge. maybe blockage?

I've read all the FAQ's and im still struggling with two cold rads that are driving me bonkers. I I've put some Sentinel 800 in my system today to try and see if it gets two downstairs rads working. They stopped working in Spring and i've tried everything that I can think of to try and get...

Losing boiler pressure and a mysterious rad

I have a Baxi Duo-Tec Combi 40HE. Over the last ten days I've had to top up the boiler pressure three times as its been dropping to 0.5 bar. I've checked all rads for leaks and can't see any. The boiler was off for two days whilst we were away recently and it lost 1 bar. I've also noticed in...

    Boiler Temperature Not Settling

Thanks. I thought it might be. I've had a look in the Baxi book and it looks like it should be cleaned as part of the annual service (which is due shortly). I may wash and refit it tomorrow (looks straightforward). If not will it do any damage to wait until the service?

    Boiler Temperature Not Settling

So I removed the condensate pipe at the boiler. No blockage there. I'm expecting this isn't the part you mean though?

    Boiler Temperature Not Settling

Thanks for the quick reply. Good suggestion. I haven't checked. Its not frozen outside and the boiler isn't making any noises. I'll go and detach the pipe at the boiler end now and see if theres an issue that side. Is there any other part of the condensor pipe I should check?

    Boiler Temperature Not Settling

Hi, I have a Baxi Duo-Tec Combi 40HE. The last few days I have noticed a lot of condensation/air coming from the flue. I checked the boiler with the intention of reducing the maximum temperature going to the rads to reduce the condensation but found that the thermostat on the boiler is cycling...

Thank you. Very good tips. I have never done a flush before but I have completely drained the system before. I need to read up…. If you have any advice or helpful tips please share.

Hot Rads upstairs OR downstairs but not both together. Help

Thanks for speedy reply. Which brand of chemical is best? I plan to leave it in for a few days/weeks and then drain down rather than panic about using x800. Happy to drain down boiler to get more in. From looking at the guidelines I need a lot of the stuff for our 16 double rads so probably...

Hot Rads upstairs OR downstairs but not both together. Help

Hi, reopening this as we‘re back in a similar situation. I think it has probably furred up the gauze inside again (I didn’t add any inhibitor) and I want to do a chemical flush on the system. We have a magnaclean and I have the following questions: *which of the many chemicals are recommended...

Hot Rads upstairs OR downstairs but not both together. Help

Thank you! It was a bit more involved as I had to take the filling loop off. The metal gauze was completely rusted to the inside. After some wd40 and tugging i eventually removed it and cleaned off all the rust. The great news is the rads all started working immediately and just needed...
