Best tool for cutting a large hole in a soffit

I was just popping back to say that I've just bought something and it looks like a cheap and cheerful version of what you recommended, xerxes. It's called an adjustable hole cutter and it cuts holes in wood, plasterboard or plastic, for use with a brace or electric drill. It was only £7.50 odd...

Bit of an odd one this. Flame/heat retardant Metal Mesh?

That shouldn't matter. It's not viewable (sits inside the BBQ grill above the gas burners but below the penrock briquettes and griddle. :)

Best tool for cutting a large hole in a soffit

Yeah, I saw those already. I actually bought a set of those last year and they are definitely not suitable for wood/plaster type material. They are rough edged to wear away at stone type material instead. Thanks for looking though. Anyone else know of a tool that'll do it? :?

Bit of an odd one this. Flame/heat retardant Metal Mesh?

Thanks for all the help and advice guys. I ended up solving the problem in a rather unexpected way. I was shopping for some veg seeds in B&Q and a barbeque grill caught my eye. When I walked over to the BBQ section I saw you could actually buy replacement chrome griddles. So I...

Best tool for cutting a large hole in a soffit

Hi. I've just bought a shower extractor fan kit that requires a hole measuring 115mm in diameter to be cut through the soffit board on the outside of the house. I own hole saws up to 70mm odd in diameter and an adjustable drill bit that cuts into softwood and plaster, but that only makes 65mm...

Bit of an odd one this. Flame/heat retardant Metal Mesh?

Thanks guys! Watchmaker, the walkway style expanded metal mesh looks very similar to what I had in my head, so I'll give a few local steel fabricators a call tomorrow. Thanks again. :)

Bit of an odd one this. Flame/heat retardant Metal Mesh?

I hope I've posted this in the correct area of the forum. Sorry if it's in the wrong place. I did search. Anyway, it's a slightly strange topic, but it is DIY so here goes... I wish to make a simple metal mesh 'plate' to sit above my gas burners on my gas barbeque. Reason being, I will...

Converting a wooden door to accept a new locking mechanism

Cheers for the advice guys. I think I will be doing as big-all advises and fill the gap before starting again. Wish me luck! ;) Thanks again. :)

Converting a wooden door to accept a new locking mechanism

I really hope I've posted this in the correct area and apologies to all offended if my query is either considered daft, boring or both! But I have searched online and checked the DIY guide books but still don't know how to solve what I initially imaged would be a pretty simple problem to...

    Why not wireless?

It's certainly been a while since I started this thread, but for numerous reasons it took me longer to begin installation of my alarm system than I had hoped. But after taking floorboards up in every room on the 1st floor to pass wires, channeling many a wall to feedwire through conduit to...

    My Christmas Lights 2007

Well done to those forum members responsible for being so o.t.t. re: energy usage/wastage and stopping me from enjoying looking at all those pretty lights! My dreams were shattered when the password was denied! :P

Powering up a Texecom Control Box

The alarm control box, the consumer unit and all the cabling is in a cupboard under the stairs so I'm not fussed about the way it looks to be honest. Especially as the cupboard is being knocked down in the near future and all the cables moved anyway (extension on the way). As long as it's safe...

Powering up a Texecom Control Box

That's great advice, thanks. Maybe £100 isnt so bad after all then - as long as they are willing to test it all properly. Does the wire need to be channeled and FCU need to be flush mounted by law/regs then? I thought the wire could be run through conduit and the FCU mounted sat on the wall...

Powering up a Texecom Control Box

I've been installing a new wired Texecom alarm system over the Christmas period. Its made up of an external Bell Box, 4 PIR's, 2 magnetic door contacts, a veritas excel keypad and a Texecom control box (cant remember the product name off hand). It's taken quite a while to install as its meant...

    Swage or Pin-lock Scaffolding?

Looked into it some more and from what Ive seen I think I'll go for swage fitment. :)

    Swage or Pin-lock Scaffolding?

What is the general opinion on what's best out of swaged or pin-locked scaffold systems? I'm buying a 5 tier tower made of galvanised steel and I can choose between the two types of fitment, but I keep reading differing opinions as to which fitment is best. Would really appreciate some...

    Why not wireless?

RF Lighting, so I should buy a keypad as well as the speech dialler key pad? http://www.alertelectrical.com/Burglar-Intruder-Alarm-Systems/Burglar-Alarm-Communicators/Texecom-Speech-Dialler-with-SMS-Text-TSDT.asp The above link shows the speech dialler keypad that Ive been talking about...

    Why not wireless?

Cheers Ivsystems, if I need anything I'll certainly ask. :) Thanks for your input RFLighting. I think the Speech Dialler control panel is the keypad - it certainly looks like one? The microphone connects directly into the system which is ready to recieve it and work with it (from what I've...
