Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

Thanks John, I am happy for the cable to come up the wall a few inches, didn't mean ground level literally, just something like 6 inches above. The sunken backbox and flush blanking plate could be a good route to go, would look tidy and allow me to terminate the SWA outside of the CU to make...

Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

Any advice on how to hide the junction box inside? It is a masonry cavity wall construction house with dot & dabbed plasterboard on top. I plan to bring the SWA (OR T&E) in at ground level to avoid having an ugly black cable coming up the wall by the front door and then need to bring it up about...

Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

So you would recommend my suggestion of taking the internal cable from the SWA straight to the CU? Or the whole SWA?

Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

thanks john, I don't have a definitive reason for taking the SWA to the CU, just heard somewhere this was preferable. with regards to changing over to T&E, would you be happy doing this in an external junction box or should I attempt to bring the SWA into the house and terminate in a junction...

Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

I was planning to earth the sheath at both ends, by terminating it outside in a junction box and running the internal insulated cable in to the CU, along with an additional earth cable to connect to the sheath in the junction box.

Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

this is what I was thinking, does this sound like a good solution? I will be trying to hide the cable behind plasterboard etc inside so doing this with the full SWA including armour could be a bit tricky!

Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

do you mean terminate it completely and use T&E from there? I have read elsewhere it is better to keep the internal cores intact to have one less potential point of failure?

    Nest, time for a professional?

I fitted the nest 3rd gen in my house a couple months ago, the previous wiring looked much like yours in the sense that it was a complete nightmare! I ended up completely re-wiring the whole system from scratch as the previous wiring made no sense whatsoever! Quite a lot of work and research to...

Terminate SWA armour outside and take just internal wires into house/CU?

Hi all, I am running 6mm 3 core SWA to my garage and am looking at options to hook it up to the main CU in the house. I was thinking it would be easier to take the SWA via a gland into an external weatherproof junction box and terminate just the armoured portion there (running a suitable earth...

Critique my garage>office conversion plans please!

Hi all, I have a single detached garage at the end of my garden which I plan to convert into a small office as I currently work from home in the spare bedroom. It is a single brick skin construction, I believe there is a DPC down and no signs of damp issues. I have done loads of reading up on...

Thinking of converting external garage to office...

Thanks for the help, in terms of waterproofing, what is the best way to go about this? Is it using a damp-proof membrane between the timber studs and walls? In terms of floor - I have read some people just lay down insulation boards with chipboard floor on top, whereas others use a timber frame...

Thinking of converting external garage to office...

hi all, long time lurker but this is , first post. I have an external single garage at the end of the garden which I would like to partially convert into an office to work from home in.
