Just be careful not to get any knots in the wire, it slows down the electrickery and the motors will run slow....

Do you ask for payment if passing on a job

Been passed on a job by a 'mate' (well recommended to the customer) its a CU change, PEB's and some downlights in the same property because he's out of the country on another job. I've obviously got to stick to his quote to be fair to the customer, however he's said he wants almost 20% of the...

    Electrafix ??

Used Electrix fix once, and like oharaf took ages to deliver and were then missing part of the order......thanks but no thanks..... never had any probs with Screwfix. At first there appears to be some good deals, say the wylex dual rcd board.... £69.56+vat (so £79.99) Screwfix...

    Is this a record ??

As the owner had broken into the cables between the two sockets, all I had to do was to extend the origional spur cable back to the CU (which was only a 6m run), and run a new length to the other socket and bingo a second ring was born :D Thankfully the current owner didn't argue when I...

    Is this a record ??

Went to a job yesterday (CU change) and found the previous home owner had been a bit of a DIY nut, he'd extended the single ring (or so he thought) to get power to his attached garage and conservatory........had a total of 13 DSSO's, two hardwired 2kw heaters, and a 500w security light all...

    Electricians tool insurance

Neighbour had his garage broken into over the weekend, and it got me thinking about whether my home insurance would cover my business tools. I can see them possibly stumping up for £200-300 for normal DIY tools losses (joe bloggs), but tallying up the cost of replacements for my power tools...

    Do sparks overcharge?

My bro-in-law was earning just shy of £6k a MONTH (tax free) earlier this year. But that was working contract inspect and test work on a airbase about 25miles outside of Bagdad with a minimum stint of 6 months errrr......thanks but no thanks. If he's getting £4k for 1 weeks work here in...

    Bulb change on halogen downlight

Not sure that Mrs 40 Watt would be too chuffed if I got one of those  But more seriously, depending on the downlight type they could either have the whole lower surround piece unscrew, or just the centre section, or as mentioned before just the bulb unscrews. Can you post a piccy of...

    Have I the right?

Sounds like the builder (or his 'mate') probably did the origional work, got caught out and was forced to find a proper spark to come and do it properly before he landed himself in the brown smelly stuff. Been down a similar route where the builders chippy mate 'does electrics' ..... he'd...

I feel as though I have achieved something!

For a tool bag take a look at the CK 'technicians tool bag'. I haven't lost a screwdriver since getting mine, and I can actually find tools when I need them :D you can get an awful lot in it with careful packing. Its ideal for smaller jobs/2nd fix type work, I still have 2 other toolboxes...

I feel as though I have achieved something!

They look the same as the ones toolstation sell, had mine for 2yrs, its been through hell and still in one piece unlike the screwfix one I had. Interestingly the case pics on toolsation seem to be pretty much the same as on systemcase yet they are much cheaper from toolstaion...
