laptop died, will not turn back on.

If is gets a lot of use, and has served you well, might be worth getting it repaired or paying for someone to investigate further. Similiarly, computer hardware has never been so cheap, so might be worth replacing it with a new unit. My preference would be a Dell, their laptops are a little...

laptop died, will not turn back on.

Flip the laptop over and take out the screws on the back (if possible), carefully prise apart the case and detach the keyboard cable - check that the copper heatsink and fan situated over the CPU isn't blocked with dust/hair and general junky stuff. Also have you changed the power supply or...

Rusted old backboiler, safe to remove?

The house was built in 1961 according to the deeds, i can't visually see a lintel so i guess i'll have no choice but too hack off the plaster on the chimney breast in the hope of exposing one. Good thing i removed the old gas fire in front of it, god knows how long that had been sitting there...

Rusted old backboiler, safe to remove?

Thanks Neo, makes sense now you mention the infill i've already started chipping away at the plaster to the sides. How integral are these boilers, would removing it completely effect the stability of the chimney breast? Is the backend quite extensive, is this just the front that i can see in...

Rusted old backboiler, safe to remove?

I've just ripped out the old fireplace in my front room only to discover what i think is the original back boiler. I'd like to know if it's safe to remove it, and whether is it reasonably easy to do. I've stuck my hand up the chimney opening/breast and i can't feel a lintel which concerns me...

    Is this a supporting wall?

Thanks Stuart, with your sound advice in mind, i took up the floorboard on the other side of the joist which is directly over the partition and from the pictures below, it appears to me that this is a full length joist as well, i tried looking down the opposite direction, i.e away from the wall...

    Is this a supporting wall?

Sorry, i not quite sure what you mean, the joist in the picture (on the right hand side) runs over the pantry partition wall and appears to extend all the way into the brickwork (as far as i can tell from the pictures). Are you saying to take up the other side and see if the joist is doubled up...

    Is this a supporting wall?

Apologies for the poor quality pics, i cut out a section of floorboard directly above the pantry partiton, from what i can make out it extends directly into the inner leaf of the outside wall - second opinions would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately i can't get my hand in far enough to feel...

    Is this a supporting wall?

It looks to me like an old pantry/cupboard although i can't be sure. I popped around my neighbours last night to query it with them, perhaps they have/had something similiar, unfortunately they weren't in it seems. I'll take the floorboards up and let you know how i get on. Thanks again...

    Is this a supporting wall?

Hello :) I'd greatly appreciate it if a builder could tell me whether or not the wall highlighted in the picture below is a supporting wall or not. I've just moved into the property and would like to knock this small brick partition out so my (new) kitchen worktops will flow from one...
