    Angle iron lintel

There should be one there already but it may help if you posted an image or the sizes of your window. I doubt if the window was structural but uPVC windows can be made with structural posts. If you are concerned about the wall above then support it before doing an work. I would advise against...

    Window Sill Flashing

The maximum length of any flashing in lead should be 1.5m. If made longer than this then there is a possibility of the lead breaking over time when it expands and contracts. Depending on the size of the windows you have I would imagine that you will need to split the lead up anyway due to the...

Concrete floor with bitumen paint - more bitumen or seal ?

Unfortunately it's still in the same state as i started a loft conversion also. I was going to go with the f ball option that was posted by another user. Not cheap though. Have you had any professional advice? I cant remember if you were the OP on this thread but if not then i wouldnt want to...

    Batten bounce prevention when nailing

I've got different nails and they are an improvement. So no drilling required for now. Can't believe it's getting dark so quick. I may have to get the Christmas lights out to work under.

    Batten bounce prevention when nailing

Although I can now see a bit further from the dormer openings , I don't think I can see any sea. Hopefully the nails will last as long as the tiles do. :-)

    Batten bounce prevention when nailing

Inexperience again I'm afraid. I think I'm going to screw one or two and with others around being nailed then there should be less of a problem removing at a later date . It's that or sharpening each nail I did have some thinner galvanised wire type nails that went in easier than the thicker...

    Tilting batten going up verge

Thanks! Yes it is first time building all of it. Taking me longer than I thought. Most of the "help" I've had have has been poor quality and has caused me more work rectifying... I've gained a few grey hairs and got aches in muscles I didn't have before. :-)

Tiling didnt go to plan. what can i do to rectify

I've been trying to find information on lead and flashing for around the window. Mostly American sites come up and they use stick on flashing and have different construction techniques that don't seem appropriate to my situation with Upvc window in tile hung stud work. Can you direct me to uk...

    Batten bounce prevention when nailing

Hi, i had several tile breakages yesterday due to battens bouncing when nailing in clout nails. My battens are 38x19 and have been counter battened. Requirements are two clout nails per tile on vertical tiling? Screwing would be easier but believe it's not correct to do so. Any handy tips for...

    Tilting batten going up verge

Yes thanks. I had done that already as that seemed a good way of supporting the batten ends. Have rested the lowest course on pitched roof tiles a little to keep them out. Cheers

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

I was tiling the cheek and corner out today. Not a lot to show for 12 hours though. Only did about 8 courses of the bottom corner. Hoping it gets quicker when there are more tiles that do not need cutting.

Knowing where the soffit stops and epdm

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have already fitted the soffit on the two sides as that was how a double glazing person told me I should do... I was going to do as you said for that reason but he said otherwise. Looks like I'll need to buy some trim to cover the nails then. Fascias are...
