    Shocking TV Aerial cable

I will get another TV set and use it to see if the conditions still exists and exhibits the same fault. Cheers

    Shocking TV Aerial cable

Nope, there is no mains power supply in the loft aerial prior to me adding sockets, and the aerial just comes through the wall and directly into the loft from the outside........ ....im now thinking that it must be getting its 'current' from the TV end or in the wall chase, but not from the...

    Shocking TV Aerial cable

Nope, would I be right in presuming thats something the aerial installation engineers use to guage the strength of the signal, no??

    Shocking TV Aerial cable

Spoke to the aerial installation company, as the house didnt come with and aerial, only the internal cabling, and they say its just a std 'High Gain' aerial.

    Shocking TV Aerial cable

I recently decided to add a TV card to my PC and to use one of these popular TV aerial amplifiers to boost the signal down to the PC and the main TV. When the amplifier arrived, to test its effectiveness, I hooked it all up using the existing TV aerial cable at the TV end, and subsequently...

    creaking upstairs floorboards

My 4 month old Wimpey house has had creaking floorboards since we moved in. I must have heard all the stories of settlement, movement, 'bouncing floor ' design and more from the site manager (aka Coco the clown)

    security light?

Im pretty sure from reading the info on here that the recommended method is to wire these types of lights into a FCU spur taken from the sockets ring main, not the lighting circuit as you have attempted....... <don's flameproof jacket>

    Won't show images.

Also, are you running any kind of web control software such as Surfcontrol, which may block\filter content types or some websites which host files?

    Burning full albums

OK, right if I understand the problem correctly....you have a single large MP3 file (probably ~70MB depending on the bitrate when ripped), which comprises of all the tracks including the spaces between the tracks. And when you play this MP3 file on your PC, you you dont have the ability to skip...

    time in loft

What about running batons transversely across the joists to raise the floor an inch or two, and leave the cable on top of the joists. Means you dont have to cut away and weaken the joists?

    Ring Extension

That was my view as well. So to recap again then, I can just run a single 2.5mm T+E cable to the loft from the socket, then connect a FCU to that, and from there, run two double sockets and also a mains feed to the outside security light?

    Ring Extension

Cheers, will do. Thats why I thought it would be better to run it from this extension. As I would just need to pull out the fuse from the new spur to isolate that part of the circuit, and cut any flow to the light?

....and am I also ok to run a security light from the cable after the 2nd new socket?

    Ring Extension

Felix So far Im not proposing to ever use the loft for anything other than storage, which is why it is being floored after the wiring is going in, OK, new picture, , Is this the correct approach for wiring from the FCU to the sockets or should a use a junction box to split off both...

    Ring Extension

Thanks for the replies so far guys. Well I would like to put in power to both ends of the attic, as I want to put in an mains powered 'aerial booster\splitter' at one end, and perhaps another device at the other, though I dont know what yet., and I thought this was the simplest way. Im open...

    Ring Extension

LOL, I was actually referring to the amount of cable I bought, as it comes in 10M or 25M, and I guesstimated it would be well over that. The loft is just over 8M from one side to the other, and 2.5 from the socket to where the cable will enter the loft area vertically from the socket, so I...

    Ring Extension

Is the 25m of 2.5mm T+E (Black,Red+bare copper) the right stuff, to extend the brown\red and copper? Seems to make sense. I was planning to connect use crimped connectors to extend the run vertically from the right hand connector, and just run a length of T+E from the 'donor' socket, up...

    Ring Extension

I have a 'new build' house and would like to add a couple of double sockets, into the loft. I have a single socket on the upper landing which I can access and which is part of the 'upstairs sockets' ring main, to I could easily add a single spur, but I would rather have a couple of double...
