    24v downlights

Hi guys, If I get an electrician to wire in a 24v transformer suitable for about 5-10 downlighters and led strips. Can I then install said 24v downlighters without part p or are they still considered part p eligible electrical work? I also plan to connect a 12v step down transformer to...

    Polystyrene under concrete?

Hi I have fitted underground pipes and just had it all signed off. However as there was less than 300mm between ground level and the crown of the pipes, and my subsurface is concrete, I was asked to sandwich polystyrene as a compressible material on top of 100mm of earth and pour the 100mm...

Cement mix using additional pea gravel

Thanks, I like the idea of a 1:2:4 (cement : pea gravel : ballast) mix. Thanks, yes this is the approach, it’s similar to what I found on the marshal site for laying marshal flags. Except marshal mentions to use a primer on the flags as well. Sounds like a plan, saves wasting the pea gravel :D

Cement mix using additional pea gravel

Thanks that makes sense, I guess I just took the advice from the builders merchants when they said throw in a shovel load per mix :D I guess as a worst case, if I still have loads of pea gravel left I can get few bags of sand and do a 1:2:4 mix (cement: sand : pea gravel). I guess my concern is...

Cement mix using additional pea gravel

Hi guys I am planning to use 1:6 cement to ballast for a concrete sub base for a patio floor. As I have lots of pea gravel left over, does anyone have any recommendations for throwing it into the mix? Maybe 1:1:6 (cement: pea gravel:ballast)

    Outdoor sink

Hi guys I am planning in the future to build an outdoor bbq area with sink. As part of an extension I am putting in a new bottle gulley. I am thinking I might as well add additional connections whilst I’m at it. The gulley is 3-4 meters(direct) from where the anticipated sink is. The area...

    Cold flat roof

To conclude on this thread. The design we ended up with is a warm flat roof. Based on the building regs technical guidance documentation on eaves height...

Build internal leaf wall without wall starter set.

A cementitous grout used for anchoring the steel column bolts into the padstones. That’s what my SE put as a note on the drawing.

Build internal leaf wall without wall starter set.

Thanks all for. I have clarified this with the SE and the advice was, he doesn’t normally design steels to tie into blockwork or walls. If we must do it, it’s up to the builder and what building control want. However he has no issues if we use a wall starter set or bolts. It was much more...

I would also like to state, that the SE did know about the project and the end state. It was all drawn out for the SE how I wanted. He can’t design steels if he didn’t know what they were used for...

Build internal leaf wall without wall starter set.

Guys, I understand there are many digs at my situation at the moment and I appreciate that. This is my first major building works to a home I’ve lived in for 5 years. I’ve been researching this stuff for the last 6 months before I took the leap of faith knowing damn well I haven’t got every base...

    Full fill cavity insulation

Price? I was looking into a similar fullfill insulation, Xtratherm fullfill pir. Compared to fullfill slab costing was £300-400 for dritherm 32s and £1400 for Xtratherm fullfill pir. All for a U-Values difference between 0.32 - slab and 0.21 pir. Ease of installation, most builders know how...

Build internal leaf wall without wall starter set.

I know, unfortunately I’ve paid them now, so nothing I can do except push on... So far they have drained my energy, and my money.... What we were thinking is build the inner leaf, and when the steels go in, fill the gap between steel and blockwork with mortar then bolt the steels into the...

Build internal leaf wall without wall starter set.

I know, I’m panicking already, as I feel like I’ve been screwed over by the SE and builders... However to try keep positive without leaking money like a waterfall. So, your suggesting that frame ties should be used instead of a wall starter kit?

Sorry, I don’t understand? If wall starter kit goes in, is the blockwork not tied in?
