    Valuted Celiing issues

Hi Nose all, The run of the ceiling is about 4.5m, so purlins were unfortunately a must. No Velux To be honest didnt think about the lights or how much of a big space it would look. I thought it would be nice to have such a big open space, however now that it is here it looks a bit...

    Valuted Celiing issues

Hi Guys, Building my new extension, and i have a vaulted ceiling for the roof. I am not 100% sure what to do with the lighting, i was thinking wall lights or a long pendent, top of the ceiling is about 4 meters, i was also thinking a bit of a false ceiling at the top to stop i looking like a...

    Bloody Noise Complaints

Thanks Joe, I agree cutting blocks and bricks on every sunday for a year might be a bit grating. The strange thing is everyone is retired around where i live, so i can not personally see the difference between any day in the week, its not like they have to go to work!

    Bloody Noise Complaints

The friend who was helping me cut the roof, also works in the week, and was helping me out at the weekend. Suprisingly it was ****ing down on and off all week, and who knows when the weather is going to be good again. So Sunday came and the roof went on, it was dry. I finished a...

    Fitting a garage door

Not sure if this is in the right place. I have been looking at garage doors on the web, and locally. There is a huge price difference between fitted and unfitted. around £500  So i was wondering if anyone has fitted a section garage door, and perhaps wish they hadn't by the end of...

    retrofit cavity trays

Well the BCO, insisted on the cavity trays or render. However to comply with planning i need to use the cavity tray.. 16 trays took me all day and was a pig. I am not quite sure of the wisdom of cutting up a nice gable and fitting them in, however the job is now done. I ended up using...

Lean to roof Timber sizes and dead load

Thanks for all you replies. Not sure i understand oldun's calcs? possibly me being a bit dim. The outer edge of the wall plate is 280cm from the far edge of the ridge (timber bolted to side of house), on the horizontal, the veritcal rise is 120cm. therefore the run will be less than...

Lean to roof Timber sizes and dead load

Thankks for the advice, i will use some truss clips, and big old screws to hold it all together. If i go for 600 centers, you can get velux that would fit between the rafters, would there be any need to double up as i am not cutting the rafter about. I see the need if you had rafters at...

    Wall Insulation

Probably your only soloution is to blow in insulation and fill the cavity completely. This works out a lot cheaper than cellotex or alike. I suspect it is unlikely that you will get the desired U value for building regs any other way. You might be able to smack in the massive sheets of...

Lean to roof Timber sizes and dead load

Hi Guys, Wanted to check i am not going crazy, and that my interpretations are correct. I am looking at a lean to exension, Clear span from existing wall to the begining of the wall plate is 295cm. Pitch is 23 Degrees 600 centres for the rafters ( so i can fit some veluxs between...

Target insulation for pitched roof in extension

Technically its a room in a roof, it is a two storey extension with a low pitch. so not bothering with a horizontal ceiling... Good to know about not needing an air gap. I guess you just batten them on to the rafters which leaves a bit of threading room for cables.. cheers A

Target insulation for pitched roof in extension

So another green question... i think i want a cold deck insulation pitched roof. But not sure of the insulation thickness? I have 6x2 (150x50mm) rafters and wanted to insulate between them. with 100mm celotex i think i would need to counter batten under the raters to keep an air gap...

    retrofit cavity trays

Looking at all the posts on the site, it seems that lots of people have damp issues if the dont fit them. So i better get a decent mortar rake to get the bricks out... Any advice on tools to make it easier, this thing looks truly fragile...

    retrofit cavity trays

Well two alternative views. I supposed the only definitive way to find out is ask the BCO. However i dont want to make unnecessary work for myself, but i also dont want to have a damp problem... decisions decisions...

    retrofit cavity trays

Thanks freddy, you might well be right.. Chopping out the bricks seems like a hell of a job, whats the best solution. Is it these preformed trays? they seem quite expensive, and i think i would need quite a few to. http://www.dpcproductsdirect.com/product-detail.php?pid=145 do people...
