HELP! Been let down by my SE at the eleventh hour...

Tony, that’s great, thanks for clarifying, so helpful. If I was to look at replacing the timber what sort of dimensions should I be looking at. If I doubled-up with the same size as the existing, bolted together would this work?

HELP! Been let down by my SE at the eleventh hour...

Hi all, I have some steel work scheduled for Saturday and the one remaining piece of the jigsaw hasn't arrived from our SE who has gone AWOL! I wonder if anyone here can help so that I can buy material tomorrow and not delay the fabricators. We are removing an exterior wall and fabricating a...

Steel beam too short? Looking for advice

Ah, sorry! I’ve been dipping in and out and read your last post as if you were the OP. It’s me that’s confusing things! My advice to the OP is to speak to the structural engineer and then armed with that information he can direct the builders.

Steel beam too short? Looking for advice

Did you engage a structural engineer directly or did the builders do it? Ring the SE and ask what his recommendation was in terms of RSJ dimensions and placement, that way you’re getting it all from the horse’s mouth and can direct the builders accordingly.

    Two en-suites, one stack...

Hi all, It feels like I’m asking questions daily at the moment! I’ve got two new en-suites going in next to each other either side of a brick wall. I have access to one internal stack running up the dividing wall. Hopefully this sketch makes sense: My idea is to fit a triple branch (see...

    Help me understand these dimensions!

To be honest I just grabbed this one as an example, all of the bigs had similar confusing dimensions. After reading a bit I won’t be using Victoria Plumb full stop.

    Help me understand these dimensions!

Guys, Quick one, I’m probably being thick. What the hell do these dimensions mean with most measurements including “+-“ and a second set of digits... I just want to know at what height above FFL the centre of the pan outlet sits... 180mm, 195mm or 170mm?!

    Fitting a concealed cistern back-to-front!

Thanks @lostinthelight Do you see any reason the cistern can’t be reversed?

    Fitting a concealed cistern back-to-front!

Hi all, So this is going to make me sound mad but anyway!... I want to fit a back-to-wall toilet with a concealed cistern but this is the first time I’ve ever considered it, fitted lots of close-coupled over the years. The thing that makes me nervous is burying the cistern, inlet and half the...

Ceiling speaker choice for existing Onkyo 5.1 amp

@Lucid Thanks for taking the time to read through my questions but even more to review the Onkyo specs and come back with such an informative and broad answer. I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever received such a great response on a forum! Brilliant! Dom

Ceiling speaker choice for existing Onkyo 5.1 amp

Hi all, I am just planning the setup of speakers for our property renovation and could do with some advice. Years back I bought an Onkyo HT-R393 5.1 amp which I have used for home cinema and really like. I have since acquired another identical Onkyo amp. I will be setting one up in the cinema...

    Asbestos Identification

Thanks guys, I’ll get this bit sent off for testing. Just to be clear... this is the only bit I broke off whilst masked-up, I haven’t smashed the whole house up!

    Asbestos Identification

Just noticed the photos are a little misleading, the fibrous broken edges you can see is the wallpaper on the surface, the break of the board itself does not contain visible fibre, it’s pretty grainy.

    Asbestos Identification

Can anybody help ID this board I have lining the interior walls of my house. Essentially I want to know if I’m dealing with asbestos or not. House is two hundred years old so from an age perspective it could be asbestos based. It is tough as nails, breaks cleanly (although needing an almighty...

    Another rising damp thread?!

All sound like good ideas but as it’s being boxed-in it doesn’t need to be rendered at all so can breathe away within the frame.
