Draining sealed system to fit new raditor valve.

It might not have inhibitor in at the moment!!! Or might need topping up, that stuff doesn't last forever! I was merely giving the man some options, well I work for a company, that's just what I say for the govy's! Cheap price repeat work, a way to build customer base for my own company!

Sporadic hot water - Only some fittings getting hot water

Then you have a small cylinder and generally speaking wouldn't need a secondary return, but okay it is possible to do it that way provided as you said a check valve and bronze pump is installed but this is not a preferred method, because you are drawing off hot water and when it returns to the...

Sporadic hot water - Only some fittings getting hot water

Because its on the cold feed causing hot and cold water to mix at the right temperature bacteria will grow rapidly, if there's is to be secondary circulation pump installed due to system design then a tapping specifically for that purpose should be provided on the cylinder about 3/4 of the way...

Sporadic hot water - Only some fittings getting hot water

Question to picasso- are you a registered unvented cylinder installer(no disrespect intended here) that pump is yes the wrong type, and in the wrong place altogether! Isolate it using the pump valves! There is a risk of legionnaires disease here! I would still get a registered installer to look...

Sporadic hot water - Only some fittings getting hot water

A few pictures of the cupboard would help us identify your system better! You can't see if the check valve/non return valves are working correctly the components are internal! The pump may well be part of the heating system, as for the immersion switches its sometimes cheaper to just leave them...

Sporadic hot water - Only some fittings getting hot water

That pump will just rust up and jam anyway! The system has been operating correctly for 4months so the lack of check valve next to pump can't be it otherwise it wouldn't have worked when they moved in! I suggest you get a BPEC domestic hot water storage systems qualified installer to check it...

Sporadic hot water - Only some fittings getting hot water

Yes sorry there's a requirement for a check valve near the pump to prevent back flow, but any qualified fitter of unvented cylinders should know to balanced out the cold mains to the house, cutting out check valves on taps showers etc. Even if the check valve next to the pump had jammed there...

    Ducting a water supply

Yes if the drain leaks the waste water can penetrate through and you might end up drinking unwholesome water! If it went over the drain how far down would that take the pipe at the highest point?

Sporadic hot water - Only some fittings getting hot water

Both of the above are very incorrect, the hot water leaves the cylinder from the top or top side not bottom, the pump is a secondary circulation pump that does not cause adverse affects if blocked removed or turned of! does allow hot water to reach taps faster if in operation! There should be no...

    Which Radiator Valve

Plumbcenter's are actually pegler valves, personal preference for bulldog radiator valves!

Sporadic hot water - Only some fittings getting hot water

What colour is the pump? The speed the water leaves the taps can be down to the type of tap! The smaller the hole(spout) the faster the water appears to flow, like nipping the end of a hose pipe! The hot tap on the bath should have the most water as the pipe to it is bigger than the other hot...

Draining sealed system to fit new raditor valve.

If the auto air vent in the boiler opens to vent, all the water above the pipe may be released causing a bit of a mess, just draining the rad relies on an air lock keeping the rest of the system water where it is if air lock fails, then you'll get wet! Also forgot to mention you'll need to add a...

Draining sealed system to fit new raditor valve.

Get a plumber in shouldn't cost that much £10.00 for valve and at the most 2 hours work max at £20.00p/h. Alternative, find the lowest point on the system to drain from, turn off boiler, open drain valve, after 5mins open bleed taps on radiators on top floor then 10mins later move down a floor...

    Ducting a water supply

As long as the pipe is between the required depth then ducting is required, just back fill about an inch above pipe with sharp sand and seal the 4" ducting at both ends with, silicone sealant!

    Ducting a water supply

At a guess, you are replacing lead with 25mm MDPE pipe, which should be between 750mm and 1350mm deep, 350mm from other services, a look at united utilities website has a good description of what is required!
