    Possible to "repair" door hinge?

SO..... Yesterday I removed the new hinges, put the OLD hinges back on the door, dowelled/glued all the holes in the frame, cut a bit more (vertically) from the rebates so I could position the hinges a few mm higher, then drilled new (slightly higher up) holes and refitted the door/hinges higher...

    Possible to "repair" door hinge?

Yes, the old ones are (probably) cast iron. The ones I bought aren't those thin pressed steel ones, they're these: https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p65847?table=no

    Possible to "repair" door hinge?

Well, I got some new hinges, with holes in different places from the old hinges (seemed impossible to find hinges that matched exactly). I bunged up the existing, non-matching holes in the frames with dowels and glue, and fitted the new hinges, plus some stiff sheets of cardboard to pack the...

    Possible to "repair" door hinge?

Well, my excitement was short-lived. I took off the door, removed the top hinge, refitted it the other way up, then tried to remove the lower hinge, only for one of the screw heads to break :(. So I left the lower hinge as-is, refitted the door...and it's now LOWER than before! I wonder if...

    Possible to "repair" door hinge?

@DaveHerns You just might be a genius. I am going to try that right now!

    Possible to "repair" door hinge?

Hello, I have an internal timber door that has dropped by a few mm, presumably due to the hinges getting worn over the years. Here are a couple of photos; the first one shows the hinge in its usual, dropped position... IMG_20171216_114440 by hellopaul2 posted 17 Dec 2017 at 7:47 PM ...and this...

Leaking compression join / tee - how to replace?

If by "soon enough" you mean "right about now", you'd be exactly right! It's the tiniest of tiny drips, but I'm fairly sure the whole thing needs replacing. The plumber's coming back today (free of charge) to sort it!

Leaking compression join / tee - how to replace?

Yeah, the process was "see if we can fix the existing compression fitting, if not, solder a new thing in". I'm assuming it's all OK...I haven't checked it for a while...!

Leaking compression join / tee - how to replace?

So - all sorted...by a plumber! His solution: A generous dose of PTFE tape plus EXTREME welly tightening it up, saying that the whole "you'll crush the pipe/knacker the olives/damage the thread etc" thing is rubbish. And it no longer leaks! At least I now know not to worry about these things and...

Leaking compression join / tee - how to replace?

@Nige F I'm still not sure how I'd be able to piece together a series of compression fittings (the 301BP plus the new tee) without being able to shove the pipes apart. Am I right in thinking that soldered joints would not need as much 'moving apart' to assemble? @aptsys I just tried that - took...

Leaking compression join / tee - how to replace?

The pipework is copper, it's hot water and the tee is the hot feed to my (as yet not installed) kitchen tap. This one tiny drip is holding up my entire kitchen installation - it's maddening! I'm waiting to hear back from a plumber because every time I ever do some plumbing, I vow to never ever...

Leaking compression join / tee - how to replace?

Hello, I recently had to adjust a tee in a compression joint; the pipe teeing off the straight pipe was angled too far up, so I slightly loosened the two nuts (by about a quarter turn), re-angled the whole thing, then tightened the nuts again. Then a very slow drip started from both the...

Bayonet light fitting 90° out of line?!

Oooh yes, lampspares has just what I need, thanks @DetlefSchmitz ! Not relevant to bulbs/lamps/electrics, but 'discussions about words': http://www.dictionary.com/e/basics-missing-from-english/

Bayonet light fitting 90° out of line?!

Thanks, @ban-all-sheds. I suspected I'd need to get a new fitting. Unfortunately the usual suspects (Screwfix, Electric Center) only do the plastic jobs, but I suspect I know where I can buy one.

Bayonet light fitting 90° out of line?!

Hello. I recently replaced a light that was being very unreliable; it would only occasionally work at all, and sometimes I'd have to wobble the bulb a little to make it work. Anyway, I now have the light down, and I disassembled then reassembled it to make site all the connections were good...

How to remove a stuck push fitting? And plinth heaters...

Thanks for the suggestions, @John D v2.0 . I found a pipe clip - the only ones I have are for 22mm pipes, not the 15mm pipes connected to the thing, but think it helped - a combination of pipe clip, adjustable spanner, finger pain and lots of swearing helped remove one of the pipes, but the...
