Texacomm Vertias R8 better than Honeywell ADE?

Anything else to order while I am at it? Will order a couple of junction boxes in just in case (although I will try and avoid using them). The cable clips in the kit are 4mm, isn't that far too big for alarm cable? Edit just realised 4mm is the size of the clip, not the size of cable its...

Texacomm Vertias R8 better than Honeywell ADE?

Thanks I was going to ask a question about that, does the keypad has a little speaker in it too so you can hear the alarm setting? Will order a 16 ohm speaker, they are only like £5.00.

Texacomm Vertias R8 better than Honeywell ADE?

Thanks just backed up my own research :). I have an old Veritas 8 currently which I wired when I replaced a worn (keypad worn) Logic 6 unit. Remember being quite impressed with the instructions and detailed wiring diagrams. This is the kit I hope to order :)...

Does this cable need an FCU?

Thanks never really thought of the isolation point of things :). Always had to remove the fuse for the downstairs lighting in the past which has not a major issue as the box was in the hall with lots of light coming in. Now it will be a major issue. Also when the spark replaces the CU I will...

Texacomm Vertias R8 better than Honeywell ADE?

Ordering my alarm tonight after a month of debating what system to get, I was going to get the Visonic but I decided £200 savings in my pocket is worth the extra few hours a wired system will take to install. I am also more familiar with wired panels. My own research based on nothing in...

    Cat 5 query please help!!

Make sure the switch is managed, unmanaged (dumb) switches are not much use in high traffic conditions. Also don't get a cheap one, although I have a cheap one in the workshop and its fine, I have had some cheap ones which need constantly restarting. The netgear switch will be fine. Also...

Does this cable need an FCU?

Think its a 1.00mm but might be a 1.5mm, not actually checked the guy who fitted it does have a good electrical background although at the time he had not worked in the industry for a while. The fuse is 5 amp in the CU from memory. The control box will be about 60cm from the consumer unit...

Rewire - what do I look for

You need to be careful with extension leads, they can only provide a maximum of 13 amps, and if you have a double socket that still can only provide a maximum of 13 amps. So you could have 12 sockets are fed off one socket and you can easily overload it. At best you will have problems with fuses...

Does this cable need an FCU?

I am hoping to finally to get round to replacing the alarm later this week. I have decided on a wired one now due to cost. The existing control box is in the hall but I want to move it to the electricity cupboard and use a remote keypad. There is a 1.0mm flex cable coming from the consumer...

14th edition - easier just to rewire?

Thanks all makes sense. I know there are things like junction boxes etc which are hidden which are not ideal. The downside to a complete ring main rewire is the mess. I guess we need to get three quotes and see what the sparks think.

14th edition - easier just to rewire?

It is all copper with PVC insulation. Never thought about just adding a new circuit, I was thinking it would be a lot of hassle for the electrician to modify the existing ring main but I suppose if it all checks out ok it could be left alone and a new circuit made. No idea if the tests will...

14th edition - easier just to rewire?

We are getting a report done, and I assume the electrician mah make the decision based on the work we know we need that a report would be a waste of money. The existing wiring is 32 years old and was done in two days (it is a 3 bed house) but as I say the main issue is a lack of sockets. The...

14th edition - easier just to rewire?

I am planning what work needs to be done when the electrician comes in to the inspection and upgrades. We have an old 8 way Wylex consumer unit with wired fuses, as the electrics would need to ideally last another 20-30 years I think this needs to be replaced. The earth bonding is very very...

Wireless Alarm - Texecom or Scantronic, or Other?

I am not being funny but if I was told what to do like that I would tell you to get lost. There are ways of wording things. If a customer told me how to install a motherboard I would just sent an email back telling them to do it themselves if you know so much about it.

    Security flaw with keyfobs?

Up this late removing a rootkit from a PC my customer wants back tomorrow, while I am watching paint dry I have been thinking.... Having finally settled on a powermax system and now going to spend £350.00. Two door contacts, external siren, 3 PIRs and a wireless commander. Anyway I was...

Decided on the powermax - a few questions

Thanks do the fobs have a bleeper or something built in? I am thinking I could try the fobs at first and then if people can't get used to it buy the keypad at an extra date. I did cost up a wired system but it only ended up being £160 cheaper but it would involve spending an entire day...

Decided on the powermax - a few questions

My brain is aching from all this research but just before I buy it I have a few more questions. I am buying the full kit with bell box etc, so the old alarm system will be ripped out. This is what I will probably buy...

ESP Infinite Prime Alarm - any experience?

Sorry my question was would it drive the existing bell which is an old fashioned bell one, which I assume would use a lot more power than a modern sounder? The bell box which is up is SAB sadly :(. My idea was to use the existing old box which is 30ft high (too high for me!!) then also place...

ESP Infinite Prime Alarm - any experience?

So it seems there is no way of using the existing bell box with these wireless alarm panels then as they don't provide enough power to drive the old bell?

ESP Infinite Prime Alarm - any experience?

The Visonic keypad appears to be an optional extra but looking at the installation guide I will probably go with that setup but move the control box upstairs into a cupboard. I will also buy the keypad as I don't like the idea of the key fobs being the only way of disarming other than using the...
