hi there, i've always found the most important thing to do is make sure the cill is level prior to fixing,it makes life much easier for the rest of the process.(make sure you measure the door when it's on site before you pull out the old one),hope this helps....

I haven't seen this particular type of hinge before,but,on the ones i have seen their is a small amount of adjustment.on the ones i've seen the adjuster screws are found in the same location as where the holes are in your picture,their aren't any screws inside those holes by any chance are...

sounds to me like the frame isn't in plumb,if the top is leaning forward it will swing shut,if the top is leaning backwards it will swing open,put a long spirit level on the front face of the frame on the hinge side,this will reveal all. hope this helps.

or you could rip all the old stuff off and use full replacment board,depends on how rotten the old ones are.

wouldn't recommend fitting chain,as for letterbox,it depends on the door,and where you want to put the box.if it's a full height panel you can put it anywhere the raised mouldings will allow.you can't put it in the frame or the sash(outside edge of door).

on the window sash itself there should be 2 cylinders protruding from the locking mechanism,in the centre of both of these should be a recess for an alan key,when they are turned they rotate on an elipse this tightens or loosens the sash (opener)against the frame.your fitter should have done...

if both profiles are from the same manufacturer you should be able to buy a jointing strip.if not,you're going to have to just screw them together and put a 25mm trim over the joint,dont forget any glass closer than 300mm to a french needs to be annealed.
