    Sliding mitre saw

Thank you all. I tend to go for DeWalt, my circular saw & drill-driver are DeWalt, but they can be dearer. Bells and whistles seem to be in short supply on DeWalt SMS’s though. E.G. how much could soft start and trench cut add to production costs on their £220 quid models? - Terry

    Sliding mitre saw

Freddie yeah not all saws will be the same to use. E.g. I’m left handed and Evolution make a point that trigger thingy is ambidextrous

    Sliding mitre saw

ETAF yes the deal I looked at you don’t get a stand but it’s double bevel and an additional wood blade, similar sort of thing Terry

    Sliding mitre saw

Ah thanks Freddie. Not sure how I could try them out. Even the ones on display in shops sometimes aren’t fully assembled or are a bit scruffy so hard to tell. I could try asking the blokes on the building site next door where a house is being built what they would suggest. But they might be...

    Sliding mitre saw

ETAF I just realised what “SMS” stands for in all these product names - “sliding mitre saw” lol! I looked at this https://shop.evolutionpowertools.com/collections/mitre-saw/products/r255sms-db-255mm-double-bevel-sliding-mitre-saw at £299. Is this the sort of thing your son-in-law has? - Terry

    Sliding mitre saw

Thanks ETAF, I’ll have a look at refurbs. Yeah I’m looking for possibly wider cuts. Also maybe materials other than wood. Just trying to future-proof it really. You can cut a bit wider by flipping the work over but if it’s not a straight cross cut or if the other side of the work isn’t parallel...

    Sliding mitre saw

Hi chaps any advice/experiences with sliding mitre saws please? (I’ve looked through forum but some discussions are from a while ago.) Got a Pioneer brand mitre saw (not sliding) that cost me about £17 17 years ago and thinking of moving up. Not to DeWalt 600-800 £s (though they do one at around...

Floating oak beam - bent supporting screws

Thanks JobAndKnock. I'm just using the fittings that are supplied with the shelves, this is what they send you : They're only small shelves, won't hold any weight so should be ok. OP, soz didn't mean to hijack yr thread :-) Terry

Floating oak beam - bent supporting screws

Tiger, Harry, ah thanks. Ain't got a rod, got this The thicker section goes into the back of the floating shelf. So I need the rawlplug - or something - to centre the fitting in the hole. (It's in and the shelf is up, but it's a botch!) Terry.

Floating oak beam - bent supporting screws

JobAndKnock what is this resin please? Not sure how to fix rotating rawlplug problem. I used some small bits of wood in the hole to try to tighten it but not sure it’s that great. Terry

Floating oak beam - bent supporting screws

Ah yes bigger than my floating shelves fastenings, where I have a problem now cos one of the supplied rawlplugs is rotating when I try to screw the rod in :-( Terry

I'm just about to put up some floating shelves - is the beam the same principle? - Terry.

    bailey plane depth adjustment problem

Ah lot of interesting stuff there guys. I remember my dad had a wooden plane - like sort of rectangular box but with curved sides. The blade went into a space machined into it and was held in place from the top with a wooden wedge. Dunno where that got to, I've got most of my dad's tools. I've...

DeWalt DWE560 circular saw change shoe

Got a reply from DeWalt saying they can't advise on fix 'cos of H&S, fair enough I guess. Said to try service centre - sent a link to me to find nearest centre but it doesn't work maybe just my browsers. ISTR nearest DeWalt service centre is Plymouth, 51 miles / 1hr 52 mins away. I'm parking...
