Reinstate cable - best way to test which it is.

Hi, guys - thanks for the input. Just to confirm, the cable (despite being redundant) is modern, correctly sized, not VIR etc - I would guess it was upgraded just prior to central heating being installed at some point in the past. I will do a visual inspection of as much as possible when next in...

Reinstate cable - best way to test which it is.

I want to use again what looks to be one of the decommissioned cables that (previous storage heating at a guess?) run to the old, unused fuse box. The idea being to make it live again by having it connected to the existing RCD. There are quite a number of these old cables all running to the same...

condensation in a double glazed panel

there are firms online that drill holes in the glass, put some fancy liquid in, drain and then patch - can't image it is cheap though. think taking pane out, measuring and getting a new one is the simplest option. let us know the price if you do - I have the same

10mm OK to feed a shower?

Bathroom renovation, and I can run the hot and cold feed for the new thermostatic shower mixer from one of two places: 1) existing bath which has 15mm polypipe coming through the floor, or 2) the sink which has 10mm copper coming through the floor. the sink 10mm is in a better position to...

UPVC window - swap hinges + handle to be on opposite side?

In terms of the sash flipping over this is a no-go - the window has a smaller pane at the top which would look a bit odd if at the bottom. The only way is handles to one side and hinges to another. Are the hardware components not easily swapped?

Earth in lighting circuit? Connect LED bathroom mirror?

OK, try not to complicate things... 1) The light switch in the bathroom has live and neutral connected, and the earth visible but just hanging loose behind the fascia. Is there an easy way to test if this earth cable is actually earthed back at the consumer unit? Why if it is would this not...

    Removing old tiles then re-tiling?

If the walls a flat with all loose stuff removed, just a dusty surface of original plaster is something like BAL prime APD/primer/bond SBR suitable to seal the sufrace and then be tiled onto? Also, same question but if using something non-tile adhesive like a tube of grab adhesive?

UPVC window - swap hinges + handle to be on opposite side?

Hi, on our bathroom window the handle is in such a position that only I (tall!) can reach over the bath and open it. Is it easy to swap the handle to the other side so it is closer to reach, and likewise the hinges to the opposite side?? Obviously one issue would be the fact that the handle...

Grey polypipe - how to close-off?

OK, had a closer look and its a HEP20 joint. Can I use a blank to close off one side of this T-piece, or leave a tail and a stop-end? Does this make any difference to the stiffeners used??

    Removing old tiles then re-tiling?

Quick question....tiles are pulling off different layers of plaster... Should I remove all plaster to get back to the dusty wall, then seal with pva prior to new tiles?
