    Either flying ants or Termites

no they are dune or june bugs or something apparently! So I got a man in, and basically I'm going to blowtorch the sh*t out of the whole place, and then lay down some off-the-net previously banned-in-the-uk pesticide. That'll kill em. And the cats, dogs, fish, and possibly the neighbours too

    Either flying ants or Termites

I think I have (after some broad spectrum ID'ing) flying termites in the garden. They f*k off after about 11am only to return at sun rise the following morning. Any ideas of how to get rid of them? I've tried a localised ground ant repellent and ant spray (when I thought they were ants...

Electricity in the Garage (that ol Chestnut!)

The man who came (about 23 years old in a Black Range Rover and box fresh white trainers who clearly had never seen a day of hard work in his life) strided around the lawn to 'measure it' and then sent me his 'quote' which was basically a text message saying £350 plus VAT After I had done...

Electricity in the Garage (that ol Chestnut!)

Thanks bud, well out of my price range for the job, I'd consider battery & solar powered lighting if the quote comes anywhere near that. Appreciate the rough idea though - will bare it in mind

Electricity in the Garage (that ol Chestnut!)

Thanks John, I have the trench tool already, manual spade-style, but maybe I'm under-estimating the work involved in digging. I could hire a powered tool, but then potentially we're running into the realm of 'easier to get someone else to do it' What I don't want, is my beautifully quaffed &...

Electricity in the Garage (that ol Chestnut!)

I'd probably contact Gas, Electric & Water services and get them to do a locate before I started digging too, as the 'run' where I intend to dig the trench is directly in-between my own and neighbours property and there's very possibly at-least a sewer main pipe I suspect. I'd use a 4" wide...

Electricity in the Garage (that ol Chestnut!)

yeah was thinking that, as it seems to be the biggest part of the job from my limited understanding. Half a metre deep right?

    Unidentifiable alarm

thank you - I'll post a picture shortly, no the only markings on the keypad are the general function icons, there's nothing to indicate a brand or manufacturer which is rather odd. The only number on it which looks like a serial number, I've Googled the sh*t out of and no joy. I'd love to...

Electricity in the Garage (that ol Chestnut!)

its a good question but yes, I do have the landlords permission thankfully. he trusts me explicitly to get this type of work done as and when I see fit to the house, so I just want to make sure I don't get a ropey company to come in and bodge the work.

Electricity in the Garage (that ol Chestnut!)

so as I dig further down into my mothball infested wallet to spend an increased amount of my kids savings, ( I get the point ) what qualifications should I be checking to make sure I don't end up on a episode of cowboy builders? Excuse my brevity, I'm softer after 5pm

I'm not really sure what the smiley face indicates? Are you suggesting it's not enough? That's fine, but it'd be more helpful for me for you to tell me that, than guess in the form of an emoticon! What should I be looking at? Try & understand I'm coming onto a Forum like this to get advice...

    Unidentifiable alarm

As per the forum post, I have what seems to be an unidentifiable Alarm, taking the lid off and trying to find any markings on the core PCB haven't proved fruitful. So whilst all installed and seemingly working, we have no way of knowing how to arm, disarm. We had an alarm guy out, he wouldn't...
