Why isn't my insulated plasterboard sticking?

Hi guys, I wonder if anyone has any ideas on this. I'm insulating an internal wall with laminated plasterboard, using dot and dab. It's my first time using this technique. I stuck the first board up last night as a test. It seemed nice and solid, but this morning it's loose and obviously hasn't...

    Preparing expansion tank before flushing

I'm about to flush my vented central heating system and I know I have to prepare the expansion tank first, but I'm getting different advice. Some say I should join together the tank's feed and expansion pipes, but others say I should cap off both these pipes. Anyone know which is right? Any...

    How to notify notifiable work

Fantastic! Thanks Skenk for going to all that trouble. I've been looking for ages to unearth something similar from the Highland council but with no luck. As you seem to be in France je vous remercie profondement pour votre gentillesse. Merci beaucoup! Reg

    How to notify notifiable work

Thanks for that Skenk and of course you speak great common sense. But assuming I wanted to do everything above board, despite it being such a small job, do I take it that as far as you know I would indeed need to apply for a warrant and all that palaver?

    How to notify notifiable work

Thanks for all replies guys. Skenk, to answer your question, I understand about building warrants etc and have applied for them before. All I'm talking about here is one simple but "notifiable" electrical job such as putting a fan in the kitchen for example. I'm trying to find out if I have to...

    How to notify notifiable work

This is a basic question but I think many will be curious. Could someone clarify how the system for notifiable electrical work actually operates? Assuming I'm going to do a notifiable job myself (DIY)and be a good boy and follow the rules, I understand that I have "notify" building control...

Wiring extractor fan with timer - Does this order look right

Hi guys, Just to clarify my OP - though we seem to gone onto a different area now - I don't want to link the fan to the light (because the bathroom has a good window). I do plan to link to a lighting circuit. However, wouldn't it also be possible to link to a socket circuit if an FCU was used...

Thanks for those replies guys, esp Garymo. It will be handy to cut down the switches by one. Thanks again. Reg

Wiring extractor fan with timer - Does this order look right

Hi, I'm fitting an extractor fan with a timer and I'm considering the best order to fit the components. Does this order look right? mains>Switched FCU>Fan switch>3-pole isolator>fan This would have three switches in effect. Any way to reduce the number? Thanks guys.

Wiring bathroom fan in loft void

Thanks to all for the replies. I've got a better idea on how to proceed now. But to return to the OP, if I use a switched FCU can that be used as the fan switch or do you have to have a separate switch as well?

Wiring bathroom fan in loft void

Hi Garymo, thanks for the answer. I'll run the cable in the wall cavity. The walls are made of wood, not plaster and there's a cavity about 10 in across. Does that make things more complicated! Cheers, Reg

Wiring bathroom fan in loft void

Thanks for those replies guys. All very helpful. The power will come from a light circuit which doesn't have any form of RCD at the CU, only an MCB. If I need an FCU it will go on the wall OUTSIDE the bathroom. Do you reckon with that set up I need an RCD? Maybe one of these ...

Wiring bathroom fan in loft void

Thanks London Boy The point is this fan ISN'T in the bathroom. It's in the loft. There's just a vent grille in the bathroom ceiling - no electrics at all. Would that set up need this RCD? Cheers, Reg

Wiring bathroom fan in loft void

Thanks for that info PBD Does it need an RCD if the fan isn't actually in the bathroom and is only 24W? I thought RCDs were for high wattage bathroom applieances. Thanks, Reg

Wiring bathroom fan in loft void

Hi, I have two questions about an timer extractor fan set-up I'm putting in the bathroom. The important point is that the fan itself is not in the bathroom. It's an in-line duct fan and is located in the loft void above, so there are no actual electrics in the bathroom. According to the...

Sentinel X800 or Sentinel deposit remover?

I want to give my CH system a good clear out with a stronger cleaner since it seems nicely gunged up. Sentinel X800 seems to fit the bill but so does Sentinel deposit remover. Does anyone know the difference between them? Any advice greatly appreciated. Reg
