could this be asbestos pipe lagging?

Why not ask the LL for the Clean Air Certificate. This will show that any asbestos was correctly removed and the state of any existing asbestos in the building. Pretty sure the local authority will advise you.

Hope someone can help with this. Normally post in the Plumbing/Htg section as that is my trade. I am replacing the element in my Dualit toaster. The replacement element has a clear plastic cellophane covering it. I was about to peel it off but is strikes me as not normal cellophane and...

    gas boiler engineer cost?

Train - 6 gulp weeks apparently........ Though to become competent and have the experience to fault find breakdowns far far far longer. There are no shortcuts. I did just that and retrained starting in 2004. One year of a day a week at college and working FOC with another engineer...

BG & Glowworm Inset BBU 50 Back Boiler+ Gasfire

Don't think BG should be responsible for damage to the flue hood by your faulty flue.

Heater Exchange Faulty or something else?

May be a faulty Heat Exchanger (£££) but could also be a faulty thermistor (couple of £) or simply incorrect gas pressures (Gas Safe Engineer req)

Heater Exchange Faulty or something else?

You need to properly test the flow rate and temperature rise of the hot water. There is something called the specific heat capacity of water. The amount of heat required to lift the temperature of the water based upon the flow rate of the water. You boiler cannot deliver hot water at 55 if...

In a big mess, dont know what to do please help! :(

I may be being simplistic but has anyone checked the PRV? Their will be a pipe coming out from the bottom of your boiler which will go straight out, through the wall to the outside. Check there isnt water dripping from it.

    Gas meter black wire

Just a data cable that 'could' be connected to phone cable so you meter could be read remotely. Not in use as far as I know.

WHICH MAKE OF COMBI WOULD YOU BUY

Get the engineer to quite to change the heat exchanger. Not a difficult job to do but requires a Gas Safe engineer.

WHICH MAKE OF COMBI WOULD YOU BUY

Probably best to think about what not to fit rather than recommendations. Biasi, Ravenheat, Ariston and Halstead are makes I would avoid. Ideal used to be on that list but I think they have turned a corner. The best boiler in the world fitted by a poor installer will give you trouble...

    boiler making a horrific bang

Apparently the IDEAL Response is having all sorts of problems due to the increased general demand for gas and the mater not being able to deliver. We have been advised check inlet pressure before jumping to other conclusions. Personally this would be one of the first things I would check...

    Potterton Suprima 80HE not starting

Off the top of my head, I think that a frozen condense pipe would also show this fault (air pressure switch). Check that the plastic pipe from the bottom of the boiler is not blocked due to freezing. Boil a kettle and pour it over any outside pipe. If the pipe runs internally check its...

HEATING DOES NOT WORK UNLESS HOT WATER IS ON ALSO

You are completely right. get him back and ask him to sort it. Maybe as simple as changing the set up of the clock or maybe some wiring changes.
