    Plinth Heater Smiths SS5 MK4

Probably because that's all they had, or a 3A fuse blew so they stuck a bigger one in....

power surge wrecked Sky box or TV through HDMI splitter?

Can you prove the splitter caused it? It doesn't sound like it... I still reckon there were bad capacitors in the TV that failed when the power tripped, possibly went bang when it got turned back on, and possibly sent a load of volts down the HDMI ground. But that's obviously guessing, and...

Glowworm 24CI - how old is it?

Looks like it's probably borderline whether or not it was installed after 2005, I'll let that one go then, thanks!

power surge wrecked Sky box or TV through HDMI splitter?

I vote for bad caps in the TV, common occurrence nowadays it seems!

Glowworm 24CI - how old is it?

Hi all, i'm in the process of buying a house and the sellers have said they have no paperwork for the boiler as it was installed pre 2005 so it's not needed. I'm not 100% convinced as they said the same about the electrics but there's a sticker on the consumer unit saying it was installed in...

Upgrade 60A fuse; Crabtree Starbreaker backward-compatible?

Have you asked about the fuse upgrade yet? My betting is if you get a PME earth, they'll change the cut out, and you'll magically get a 100A fuse

    Plaster blown around flue

Buying a house and just had a good look round it. Early 70s semi, needs a lot of decorating etc. There is a gas fire in the living room downstairs, but no chimney breast - I believe the flue is somehow flushed in to the party wall. In the front bedroom upstairs, there is a vertical bit where...

    Ethernet

Powerline ethernet in general, or their product? I've used a few powerline ethernet adapters in the past, they never gave the speeds quoted but alright for non speed critical things. Prefer ethernet cable where possible though!

Upgrade 60A fuse; Crabtree Starbreaker backward-compatible?

A service fuse will blow at approx 1.5x it's rating, so it should probably hold but you should get it done. They won't start charging you hundreds of pounds to replace a service fuse, it's 5 minutes work usually, as long as it is just that. They'll want to make sure your service cable isn't...

Recommendation for a 63amp fuse switch

I saw exactly this further round the site mentioned above - two identical meter boxes side by side in a small wall by an underground sewage pump, one had DNO equipment inside, the other had a CU and other customer equipment inside.

Recommendation for a 63amp fuse switch

Yep - had a job recently where the customer's fused isolator burnt out, caught fire, and burnt the meter board and meter box. The boss said the meter box is for DNO/meter equipment only and I think they got charged for the work to replace it and were told to re-locate.

Upgrade 60A fuse; Crabtree Starbreaker backward-compatible?

He definitely won't upgrade your fuse, if that's what you're thinking.

Upgrade 60A fuse; Crabtree Starbreaker backward-compatible?

You need to speak to your DNO about that, some will just come out and do it, some will ask for you to fill out an increase in supply form.

    Boiler/extractor fans problem

Call the landlord again, you don't know what exactly the electrician did, so you don't want to be messing with wires and blowing things/yourself/someone else up in the process... It sounds like there was a spur off the sockets for the boiler supply that has been disconnected, that could mean...

    application for three phase supply

The planner was anticipating the load going up apparently, so specced it as 95 fed with HD cutout. When I went to site, it turned out the unit in question was going to get divided into two units with the other half having a separate supply....so I can't see the full capacity being called for any...

electric srorage heaters on during the day

It is possible to have a consumer unit with two supplies, one for normal supplies and one for off peak. A picture of the board would help, as it could look like it has two supplies but just be a normal split RCD board

    application for three phase supply

It depends on who plans it - I've had some jobs be specced as a 3x 60A for industrial use, and another as a 3x 100a for a street lighting pillar! Probably in an attempt to get people to not go over their ASC, I suppose a lighting pillar isn't likely to change too much load wise whereas other...
