in fact there is a drain valve in this case next to the right hand side of the pump , it maybe partially open , pump is to the left of the boiler at bottom.

I'm sure agile will correct me if i am wrong , but sounds as if the pressure relief valve is partially open, if you follow back that over flow pipe you might see a knob on the end of it under the boiler, not sure what it looks like on this model , but they can be ovious give it a flick might...

Is it a single wire? , if so if you short it to earth you will see the gauge move, if it doesnt then there is a wiring problem. Other than that if it works fine then it must be the sensor, aslong as you change it when cold , it doesnt matter if you spill a bit of water , just take it out...
