There is a water leak but where ?

Hi I need some advice and hope someone can help... 1 Recently I became aware of an unusual noise in my house. The sound of flowing water through some, or one of my water pipes in the bathroom (ground level). There is no evidence of any leak and there seems to be no loss of water pressure...

    Old Tool Identification

Watsit 1 Possibly for making a thread in a hole. Watsit 2 Some sort of butchers tool ? or a gardening tool - for roughing up the earth ? (yes I believe that is a technical term used among avid gardeners) Not THE famous whisker 1000 from 1845 ?

    Restore Victorian tiles in Hallway

If there is not a major rush then I would take my time in replacing any severely cracked tiles with reclaimed tiles (ensuring a good match) You will have to have a look for some private sellers on the internet perhaps. I actually got mine by visiting a reclaim yard. If you do this then be...

    Restore Victorian tiles in Hallway

More likely you will have to invest in some reclaims. You cant by these tiles new and reproductions are now metric rather than imperial so you will end up with colour variation, texture variation and a subtle size difference. All equating to something that will ultimately look rubbish. If...

converting a loft for some light storage

You sure you're not talking mm rather than cm ? There are standards and regulations that have to be met by building control if you are going to be doing a structural conversion. The standard sized joists for a domestic dwelling I believe are 7x2 (inch). There are 8x2 (inch) also available...

Quick help needed on wood choice

I dont see why using wood in a bathroom for this use would be a problem. For a shelf... I would go ahead and use the pine you want and just ensure generous oiling (and oil once a month for 3 months) then as often as needed after that. If water cant penetrate it then its not going to suffer...

How to spot a water leak under the floor?

If its not possible to locate a hidden leak through lack of obvious signs maybe you can identify a likely area of the leak (daft that it may seem but its an idea). Can you remember if any pipe work was knocked or damaged in any way when the new floors were fitted ? Perhaps you have had...

    Vapour barrier plaster boards

Plaster boards are supposed to be fire retardent and the poly sheet will render it flamable. Another point. Common sense tells me moisture could possibly build up between the poly sheet and the board. Much better idea is to go get some more of the foil backed. Better be safe than sorry.
