Wiring 2 External PIR Security Lights

Exactly my point. It will not be part of ANY circuit if he runs a single cable.

Do I need an electrician to replace a heater?

What has that got anything to do with you or anyone else what he is putting in HIS house? If he is planning on putting something inappropriate in HIS property which would make HIM lose his tenants, and then having to pay to get some new tenants in, then it is his problem. You come across as...

Wiring 2 External PIR Security Lights

How far apart are the lights? It is best if you do the job properly and run a new cable. Running a single core: 1) Is going to look ugly 2) gives you danger that if it gets damaged, then it can give you a nasty shock as it will not be part of the same cable that is protected by RCD.

    Overcurrent fault on socket ring

The MCB and RCD do 2 different things. MCB trips on current overload whereas RCD is to do with your earth leakage. If you had a trapped cable and lets say the cable was damaged you wouldn't be tripping the MCB but the RCD more than likely. There are 3 types of MCBs, type B,C and D and they...

Do I need an electrician to replace a heater?

If you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't say anything at all! it all really depends on how competent are you ? The laws are different when dealing with letting properties. There is nothing to say you can't do the work yourself, provided you are competent to do it. But as it...

    Bathroom Wiring

Hi Guys Quick check to make sure I am understanding the onsite guide correctly. I am running new supply to the bathroom and also replacing the CU with dual RCD ( it is a TT system). So all circuits in the house will be protected by RCD. Does this mean I don't need to worry about the sup...

Replacing an old CU with a new one

Will do. Had a chat with the inspector. He is happy if I do the work and he is confident I am competent enough to do it. After the work is done, he needs the EICR report for him to sign off the work as part of the extension work. As a leccy only charges about £300 for a complete CU unit...

Replacing an old CU with a new one

oh I see. All this time I have been told to get a leccy in, now he tells me what he is going to do, but he is not a leccy? I give up! I have no problem paying for someone to do the testing, at the end of the day it is the whole purpose of the Part P isn't it ? To make sure the wiring is up to...

Replacing an old CU with a new one

Thank you aptsys I will speak with my inspector who is doing the building work inspection to see if he has anyone who can do the testing and ... without me having to inform the LABC. He may have already done it as part of the notification for the extension. On another note, do you know how...

Replacing an old CU with a new one

Here is a quote from 'ElectricalSafety.org': *********************** What if I don’t use a registered electrician? If you use an installer who is not a registered competent person, he or she must notify the registered third-party certifier within five (5) days of completing the work. The...

Issues with plumbing in an old bungalow

Thank you for the info. Do the suppliers come out easily to issues like this ? or do they take ages to action?

Replacing an old CU with a new one

ok, my understanding is: RCD: Trips when there is an earth leakge but doesn't trip if there is a live/neutral fault. MCB: Trips when there is live/neutral fault but not when there is earth leakage RCBO: Is the combination of both, so that it trips in either case, hence the price difference...

Issues with plumbing in an old bungalow

ah, thought they were related to each other. The tool you have listed says it is for washing machine only as it has a bsp on it. I will see what connection I have after my meter/stopcock and see if that would work. But didn't want to measure at the washing machine as by then it has gone...

Issues with plumbing in an old bungalow

Thanks. As regards to hot water pressure: If the incoming pressure is low, does it also effect the hot water pressure? Or is the hot water pressure supplied by the boiler? How can I get the pressure tested? Is it something that a plumber can only do? Obviously I can measure the water pressure...

Replacing an old CU with a new one

Thanks EFLImpudence. There is no requirement to have a designated RCD for the shower only, am I right as long as there is an RCD protecting that circuit and others for example? I am thinking about getting a blank 21W CU. Then I can have it wired the way I need it so that I can separate a...

Replacing an old CU with a new one

Thanks John. Can you please explain a bit more on the above? If I am to change like for like, then am I not right in saying there is no design involved. I can see the rating of the current MCBs and then I will just change like for like. With the exception of adding a ring to the main circuit...

Replacing an old CU with a new one

I had to take the 17th edition test as well to upgrade from 16th edition to 17th edition for work a long time ago. so it is all up to date currently. Has the onsite guide and the brown book changed at all since then? ( 17th edition ) ?

Replacing an old CU with a new one

THANK you, and much appreciated. As regards to the comment, I didn't mean that their job isn't complicated, what I meant was the job for my property isn't that complicated. Come on, it is a 2 bed bungalow with couple of lights! I will also have a chat with the inspector ( independent). I know...
