    Switching cold & hot taps?

Divvy question - how can i tell if it's been plumbed in with flexi hose? Can you only tell that if you start pulling things apart? The kitchen i'm not too sure to be honest i'd have to see which side is cold & which is hot because i think the kitchen is actually ok if i remember right. & yes...

    Switching cold & hot taps?

I've only ever lived in the one house (well we moved when i was 2) & all taps are - cold on the right, hot on the left. All my friends throughout school & so ... cold on the right, hot on the left. People i've visited - cold on the right, hot on the left. Other random buildings i've been in -...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Will do. Someone put it to me yesterday - the possibility of PLASTIC joists. I thought it a wind up at first but had a look at their link & it at least made me curious. I suppose possibilities are endless when people get creative.

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

You seem like an intelligent guy & because of that I can only conclude you're just being bloody awkward. There's only 2 possibilities why on that quote there you don't seem to geddit (seewhatididthere) - 1 is that you're dumb, which I don't believe as like I said, I think you're an...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

You forgot the 3rd option- I can listen to the people who I have paid to come out & assess the situation in person (& therefore have a better idea than anyone online who's just read about it & not seen it) & have given their cause & solution & considering these people do this for a...

    Skimming in the kitchen

Yeah we have plenty of burst bags. I wouldn't use sweepings but thanks for the tip all the same. Also good point - when he did the stairs wall at my mums, she put the dehumidifier on immediately to dry it out which i've since learned is a big no-no.

    Skimming in the kitchen

Thanks very much. 1 bag of multi should be more than enough then. This relative of mine has done some work for my mum before. In sections the plaster has cracked. Not massively, we're talking about hairline. Is it inevitable for plaster to crack or is this likely just poor workmanship...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Since you'll probably respond while i'm at work, i'll just edit what i said out. As my threads/questions irritate you for some reason & i find your responses unnecessary & unhelpful, i think it's probably best you just don't bother replying to my thread if it irritates you so much. If that is...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

And i have told you why we can't go down the route of the ways suggested. If someone can't afford a method then simply repeating it doesn't help any. We have had people look into this. As is mentioned online time & time again - better to see in person than just discuss on the internet for a...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Wow, really? I must say i'm surprised at your suggestion. I'd have thought if anything was going to soak in moisture then that stuff would be it. But yes, we are intending on staying there. If we weren't then we'd have probably tried to jump ship by now, or at least looked into it. The...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Obviously this would be something we'd discuss with whoever is out doing the work, but it was that stuff I thought you was referring to - Kingspan or similar, cut into appropriate sections. As it's not this then what insulation were you meaning?

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Ah right. Still, i think we're kind of getting carried away a little here. We're hardly talking about how we'll be living in an igloo with those temperatures. Before we started ripping everything apart, the place was warm & not draughty. The carpet was down. There was no problem as far as...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Where is the air leak though? Surely it would be no different to how it is now? The fire also wouldn't be open. I wouldn't have one of those. It'd be one of those modern multi stove things. I've only seen my mums but her flue runs up the chimney & everything else is blocked off. We feel no...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Well we're getting the leak sorted but I'm not sure how you know about that since it's in the bedroom & I don't remember mentioning it on a forum lately. As for draughty - the suggestion has been to ADD air bricks. This obviously results in more air coming in. It's the trade off. Also...

    Skimming in the kitchen

I can upload photos if required but i don't think it'll be necessary... We removed that vinyl like wallpaper from our kitchen (you know - that old square stuff) to reveal a level skimmed wall behind it which we plan on cleaning up & painting. As we progressed through the de-wallpapering...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

From discussing with others there's a bit of a shout for concrete beams. I do like this idea, though i do have my concerns about it. I think all things considered, replacing like for like would be best. Shame as i like the idea of the concrete beams. Insulation between the joists. I'm...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Oh, also, out of interest ...... Would having a 'proper' fire help with air flow underneath? My thinking is that with a fire going, it'll be sucking oxygen in (hence pipe in photo) & will be getting the air moving better. Also the heat should help. This is all by the by as 1) we're in...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

In that case i think i've not explained myself too well. One end of the joists goes in to the house wall itself. Like so... You'll notice the air brick has been blocked there. It's been freed off now. Anyway, the other end of those joists rest on the sleeper wall in the centre of...

Giving a wooden floor the best chance against rot?

Again i would like to know what the problem is with asking questions? I know you never said you had a problem with me asking, but i'm assuming that's what your comment was getting at? If not then let's not be cryptic. You gave help, i am greatful & took it on board. From help like that we've...

I'm on my mobile at work right now so will respond better łater. That last comment there is what's making me reply now: I'd like to know what the problem is with asking more questions & trying to learn more???? I've already said I don't know about this stuff, hence i'd like to...
