Chnaging house back from three phase

Our immediate neighbour is next to the road and the pole/transformer are the other side of the road so the cables cross the road then his land, finally to the pole in the garden. Taking the whole thing underground may be an option but crossing the road may be a costly issue. From the roadside...

Chnaging house back from three phase

John, unfortunately the pole and its cable are smack bang central and look rather butt ugly. If I could go underground from the transformer all the way then no problem but its transformer to pole to me. I should think the neighbours would be glad to see the back of theses ugly cables too.

Chnaging house back from three phase

I think, so it would appear, the original front supply is single phase when it was a small country pub that served a few locals. Upgraded later to a larger pub and restaurant they changed it to 3 phase and the easiest routing to place was over the back. I would love to keep it 3 phase but...

Chnaging house back from three phase

Cheers for that John, time to get Western Power out and discuss options. Its an ex restaurant that is not going to be a business, subject to current planning app. The two upper floors are residential apartments but in a strange twist they are all fed from one meter/supply/box on the ground...

Chnaging house back from three phase

Thanks guys, this is appreciated. There are 5 cables coming across in fact, but two are thinner and I thought they may have been supporting wires. I have read up on Western Powers (My supplier) "moving your power" leaflet and will arrange for them to have a survey. But, and only...

Chnaging house back from three phase

Hi All We have just bought a house that is currently three phase electrics and connected via a pole sat slap bang in the middle of the back garden. The house was originally fed from the pole at the front of the house but I "presume" upgraded to 3 phase as it became a restaurant...

No hot water but heating works fine

Ok. Upped the regulated water pressure to the house to 3bar and the System is now running normal, can get hot water from all taps, CH running normal. Only issue now seems the drops in pressure which signifies a leak. Will the fact that the secondary heat exchanger (DHW) is leaking (Drip...

No hot water but heating works fine

Sorry, did I say Corgi, I meant to say Gas Safe. Have been out of the Uk construction industry for a while now. New events To add to my quandary the system is now losing pressure without any use of the hot water taps. I put the pressure up to 1.5 and within 20 minutes its down to...

No hot water but heating works fine

Got a Vaillant vcw-gb 242 eh combi boiler. Now 18 years old but serviced annually and worked like a dream, until now. Central heating works no problem. Turn on the kitchen hot water tap whilst the CH is on and the boiler switches off and the pressure rapidly drops off to zero. Without...

Change of use from pub to dwelling

A year has passed and you're either down the middle of converting it after a successful change of use, still going through painful appeals, or given up the ghost. Don't be fooled into thinking that buying a pub and changing to residential is at all easy. More and more councils backed by the...

    Partition wall with no battens

Cheers Harbour. I eventually went for a middle of the road solution. I got a full sheet of 18mm ply and screwed it to the "only" battens at the top/bottom and right hand side. Adding to this I screwed the ply randomly into the existing plasterboard monstrosity, and finally, I glued it with...

    Partition wall with no battens

Hi John Its a 25mm gap in between but no honeycomb, just air and the odd second sheet of plasterboard. Its the weirdest setup I have seen. But upon further punching of holes in the beast I may have a solution. Which I would really appreciate thoughts on, as this one is hacking me orf...

    Partition wall with no battens

I thought I'd seen it all in house building but today has opened my eyes. I have to fit kitchen wall cabinets to a partition wall. As they are heavy I thought it best to cut away the plasterboard and put in plywood across the battens for extra strength. 1.6 metres later and not a single...

Replacing a sink cabinet with in situ pipework

Hi All I am replacing the whole kitchen as part of a reno to sell. The house is only about 20 years old and as such has the exisiting kitchen which was installed at the same time as the plumbing so the kitchen sink unit has been very professionally installed with all the pipework correctly...

Creeper left a right state on outside wall

Ok. Tenent decided it was a good idea to have a creeper on the back of the house. Thought nothing of it until I saw the thing had run rampant and covered virtually half the back of the house. Told him to get shot but instead of removing it he just killed it at the base. End result. Dead...

Gap between laminate and tile floors

Hi All I am tiling the whole kitchen floor and laminating the hall directly outside. There is no door just an arch. I am thinking of putting in a T threshold, hopefully in chrome if I can locate. But, what gap do I leave initially between the tiled floor and the laminate ? As the laminate...
